sports.espn.go.com/nba/draft2006/news/story?id=2503245It says along with one or two other players.... I think we send Dickau but I wonder if we are getting another player from them. I really don't understand this one as I don't think Telfair is worth passing on some of the players who we could have picked at 7. I think it is a mistake, personally. It doesn't mention any picks coming back to us so I wonder if Danny will get one of their lower picks at 30 or 31. I can't believe that Danny will go without any picks tonight.... It will make draft night pretty boring for us as Celtics fans!!!

Sounds like its a done deal. I'm not the biggest fan of this deal, but I'm not throwing myself off of a cliff like most C's fans. IMO, there will be nobody available at the 7 that is gonna be a life-changer. I'm at least going to reserve judgement until I get to see Telfair play a little bit. HOpefully he'll be Portland's next Jermaine O'Neal.

Their is no justification for this. The guy was picked 13th two years ago, and were giving up the 7th pick for him? Give me randy foye any day of the week.

I hope we get Outlaw in return.
That'll be more reassuring especially if we give up GG for AI.

My guess is that Ainge figures he can be the pass-first* waterbug-quick** PG we are looking for. What scares me the most about this trade is that we'll have 4 players from the 04 draft all needing contracts at the same time. Lets hope he can be the new Tiny Archibald.
*astericks!
**MORE astericks!

Wow, I'm not so thrilled about this trade, but I agree that there is probably some silver lining. We could have possibly drafted Gay or Foye, but now we are out of it.
But Ainge must see really good things in Telfair or else he would not have traded the opportunity to draft Gay or Foye.
We'll see what transpires over the course of the day, and into the coming weeks. This is probably not the only deal we'll see.

Well, it could be worse guys. I mean, Danny could be trading the future of this franchise to win 10 more games and sell some season tickets (a.k.a the iverson trade). Actually don't know alot about Telfair except that he was right our of high school, a lack of productivity and maturity can be excused.....for now. And considering that from what I have read, even Toronto with the number 1 pick, doesn't seem to be getting alot in return straight up for the pick. I mean, we'll see.
Perk didn't play much for us for his first two seasons, and yet he seems to be on the track to being a very solid player. The Telfair deal neither excites me, nor does it depress me. Hold on too your seats, cause I think this is the precursor to a bigger deal. I mean, supposedly the 7th pick was being dangled for Iverson, along with Wally and others of course. Tonight could be an exciting night.

Can anyone tell me if its in the NBA rules to trade Telfair immediately after we've acquired him? I remember that something about free agents not being able to move to another team for 90 days after they've been traded. But how does this work with guys who have been traded? Same rules apply? Maybe we traded Telfair just to trade him to another team.

This is not going to be the deal of the summer. This trade does nothing in my opinion. While it probably doesn't make the team any better, it doesn't make them any worse either. Supposedly other players involved as well. Probably just fillers though. Please don't get A.I Danny. At least not for Gerald and Al.

I am livid. What a waste. Telfair better be something special or I will completey turn on Ainge.
Is this a 100% done deal?

I agree. I don't think this is it. Is Telfair the veteran PG Ainge was looking for? Nope. I think there's more roster tinkering to come.

From cnnsi.com
Hours before the draft the Celtics agreed to trade their No. 7 pick, Raef Lafrentz and Dan Dickau to Portland for Sebastian Telfair, Theo Ratliff and an ‘07 second-rounder

I have mixed feelings on this trade. Telfair will be a much better player in Boston, vs. Portland because he was constantly looking over his shoulder. Never played w/ much confidence. And, getting rid of Raef's enormous contract.
However, we have the opportunity to take a highly regarded player at #7, and we trade the pick?
