Celtics notebook: Plenty of questions as draft approaches By Scott Souza/ Daily News Staff Friday, June 23, 2006
{Excerpt}
"It's very uncertain," said Celtics executive director of basketball operations Danny Ainge yesterday. "When it is uncertain at the top, it is uncertain in the whole draft. You just have to be patient. You still have to go through the exercise of ranking the players and whoever is tops on your board you take. If you are drafting seven, the good thing is that you only have to have seven names and one of those guys will be there." Ainge said there are four players who are etched into his top seven now, and over the next few days he will work on whittling down eight other names into the remaining three spots. Of course, even when the list is finalized, you won't find Ainge sitting back in the recliner and waiting for Boston's five minutes on the board. "We're still having discussion about trading the pick," he said, "trading down. We've had some discussions about trading up, but that is probably less likely. I have to prepare to draft anywhere in the draft. That's why we have had so many people in here (for workouts)."

He's had discussions about trading up? Wonder who he has his mind on?

Wonder if Ainge likes Morrison enough to really make a push to get to the top spot to nab him?

Wonder if Ainge likes Morrison enough to really make a push to get to the top spot to nab him? I doubt it. In a weak draft, the perfect strategy is to look for teams to get too attached to a certain player and squeeze something out of them to take our pick. It's looking more and more like that's what Danny will do.

I'd love to see a deal with with Houston for Stromille Swift and their pick or New Jersey for both their picks and Jacques Vaughn, as well as the afore mentioned swap with the Hornets for their mid round picks. For my money, there's not a player in the top 6 I'd rather draft than Sergio Rodriguez or Saer Sene. This is the year to go for the long ball. Next year we have four picks and and we can fill holes.
