celtics.bostonherald.com/celtics/view.bg?articleid=144938&format=textPierce, Celts plan contract sitdown By Steve Bulpett/ Celtics Notebook Thursday, June 22, 2006 {Exceprt} Assuming they are still picking seventh overall in next Wednesday’s draft, the Celtics are aware they likely will not be getting someone at that spot who can make a quick impact. “It’s OK,” assistant director of operations Leo Papile said. “We’re going to get a choice between four or five guys we like. We’ve pretty much narrowed it down to that, and you could have action ahead of you. You’ve got six teams that have no pick and six teams that have two picks, so you’ve got to prepare yourself for teams trading. Guys who you assume won’t be there for you may be there for you. “But there’s four or five we have a comfort level with at seven, and I think that’s good.” The names most talked of lately around the Celts are, in no particular order, Randy Foye, Ronnie Brewer, Cedric Simmons, Marcus Williams, Rajan Rondo, J.J. Redick and Shelden Williams. There is also the possibility the Celtics could trade the pick. “That’s not up to us,” Papile said. “Someone’s got to come knocking. When someone knocks, you answer.” As for rumors flying about potential moves and promises to draftees, Ainge said, “You hear a lot of things. Some of it makes sense and some of it doesn’t.”

Lemme see! Try as they might, the Celtics cannot trade their pick and end up taking Brandon Roy and start negotiating with Seattle for Robert Swift.
Once again Patrick O'BRyant did not get mentioned in that list. That is a good thing.

Right now I am torn between keeping the pick for Williams, or a player that falls (Roy), or packaging the pick to a team w/ multiple picks so we can select Sene and a PG.

Well, if any sliders fall to 7, it may be either Aldridge, Gay, or Bargnani. It'll be hard to pass up on Gay because he's got so much talent, but we just don't have room for another wing player (not if we are giving Pierce an extension). I'm not much of a fan of LaMarcus Aldridge and I'm not sure how we are going to play Bargnani (PF or SF?).
If we don't have a shot at Gay, I'd move the pick if we could get Sene later in the draft. Its not like we really need to add another draft pick to our team, so drafting Sene and sending him to the D-League for a few years would be nice.
But if there's an interest in Patrick O'Bryant, he'd be a guy we may take with the 7th.

Doc wants a player(s) who can help now. Danny wants future (or present) all-stars. All options will be open and flying right up to the last minute. If it were me: 1. Trade down for Sene and Rodriguez. 2. Trade down for Patrick O'Bryant and a 2nd round pick. 3. Take Sheldon Williams with 7.

I am thinking that Danny kind of expecting Aldridge to drop and if he does, I think he will take him.
In the back of my mind I think Danny wants Sheldon Williams. He was in that 12-13 range when Danny made that comment, he is a player who can come in and help right away. We were the last team to work him out before he started to cancel workouts. The only thing that throws me off there is that Ford said that Atlanta confirmed that they gave him a promise... unless there is a deal in the works there.
Then there is Danny's talk of wanting a second round pick so maybe he trades down and takes Sene or O'Bryant and then picks someone he has his eye on in the second round.
I do think he is going to pick a big and go for Greer (probably) or Williams (possibly) as a FA.
But then what do I know... He will probably take a wing and throw us all off.
