There was an Ainge interview today on WEEI (just read on Celticsblog).
The part I wanted to comment on was what Ainge said about Jay Williams. People who heard the interview said that Ainge said JWill is not athletic enough and does not think he will be a good fit.
Well, seeing that I have not seen JWill play since he was injured 3 years ago, I have no idea just how much he's lost since that injury. I was getting excited about him thinking that he's nearly all the way back from his bike injury. But apparently he's not.
Doesn't sound like Ainge is going to go after him.
Well, I can live with that. I mean, Ainge is a master talent evaluator and he's seen JWill enough to have a fair assesment of his current abilities.
So I wonder who we'll go after. Lynn Greer? From what was reported, he's a terrific shooter and all around basketball player and MVP of the Italian league. Can he run a team? Is he better PG than Delonte?

I posted this while you were posting yours and so I deleted my post and here is the recap from JHTruth on RealGM Wade was unbelievable. Closest to MJ he's seen. Miami's 3-8 players didn't play well all the time but got enough production to win it all.
He could work with Cuban. Cuban used to give him crap when he did TV. He thought that Cuban was not out of line going to the huddle in the game. In Europe owners cheer from the bench.
Prep for the draft is going well. Sharing with McHale is not divulging secrets, they're not protecting anything. As far as the thing with McHale he doesn't really understand what secrets there really are. Everyone has the same tape and scouting on the players. He said it is easy for him and Kevin to work together becuase they are friends but he thinks it would make things easier for everyone to do it more.
There is no clear No.1 or 2. The agents don't even know what the order is. TT is most likely going 2, that's about it.
Danny will draft BPA. The consensus "Big 6" is not his Big 6. Thinks Toronto will try to deal out of No.1 and he thinks taht Toronto wants too much for No.1.
He doesn't anticipate a perennial all-star or star in this draft but he anticipates a good role player.
He is having trade conversations with teams regarding the pick for a veteran player who could help. He seemed to really be considering this option.
He thinks if he does nothing we will be better next year. Players downstairs are working hard. He will not panic or trade youth for average vets.
In talking with stock holders, season ticket holders and sponsors, he senses excitement among the fan base about the youth. He can't listen to unrealistic expectations and be pressured to making shortsighted moves.
He expects West to take it personally that they are looking for a PG and is glad West is taking that approach.
The team needs to get better in the last 5 minutes of games more than anything. He wants to improve "pucker factor." In other words, people are too timid and rely too much on PP to close games, - both players and coaches. It is a matter of getting guys who will step up and make shots in crunch time.
Jay Williams looks good but he isn't sure if he's the right fit for the Celtics. (Doesn't sound like we'll sign him.) JWill's athleticism still lagging.
Al is starting to take more accountability for his performance and maturing. He is doing things on his own instead of just doing what the coaches want. Al has shed 10 pounds and body fat. He is starting to treat it as a profession and a job instead of just fun.
Danny is a big fan of Adam Morrison but is sure he won't be there when we pick.
Shaq is not the same player he once was but teams treat him as if he's as dominant as ever so he still opens it up for everyone. Everyone wants Wade and Shaq, but you can't sit around and wait for that. So you have to build a complete team instead of dreaming of Dwayne Wade.
He had an interesting take on Lamarcus Aldridge in this draft. He said Thomas is gone at 2 and said that while Aldridge might go 1 or 4 he may well be on the board at 7 because he will not go 2,3 or 5,6.

Thanks FL. Well, there's the chance that we may move the pick for a veteran. That doesn't sound like much fun ;D
I agree that even if we don't do anything this summer, we'll be better. This year, its like we are getting 2 new players. A healthy and improved Jefferson and a healthy Szczerbiak who is adjusted to our system. And a fully recovered Tony Allen, who showed late last year what an exciting athlete he is and the damage he can do when he's focused. Plus, Gerald is going to be a year older. He made huge strides last season when he got the playing time, and it wasn't hard to see the rapid improvements he's made in a short amount of time. His confidence was soaring.
It'll still be to our benefit if we get a better playmaking PG than Delonte.

I agree with Danny on not trading talented youth for average vets. I mean, what good would trading Al or Gerald away to bring in a couple of guys who would make the team a 4th or 5th seed at best. Still no chance at a championship, and now there is no chance for one down the road. Don't get me wrong, if he has a chance to snag a Garnett, or Bosh (who is rumored to want to sign an extension), then by all means, you've got to make that deal. Could you imagine Pierce, Garnett, Wally, Delonte (possibly Cassel would then come here), and Kendrick or Raef. But unless something like that comes up, which it most likely won't, there is no reason to make the trade.
With Al going into his 3rd year, seemingly now becoming a professional, and Kendrick heading into his 4th, there is no reason the front line wont become at least a solid force both playing defense and rebounding. This would mean less points given up, more fast break opportunities, and less pressure on Pierce and Wally to have to have huge games every night.

Right, GB. Al and Perk could be a solid force down low this season. We haven't heard much about going after veteran big men help this summer, so looks like Ainge may roll the dice with the young guys.

Ainge has mentioned nothing on Patrick O'Bryant.
That is a good thing!!!!
