Big Al working hard By Scott Souza/ Daily News Staff Wednesday, June 21, 2006
{Excerpt}
Long after the court had cleared yesterday, Jefferson was still going through shooting drills with assistant coaches Clifford Ray and Dave Wohl. Jump shots, bank shots, drives to the basket. Left side of the key, right side of the key. Two feet from the rim when he started at 12:30 p.m. Out as far as the top of the key when he was still going strong an hour later. Jefferson was apparently very serious when he said he was planning to rededicate himself to work and conditioning this summer after an injury-plagued second season. Ray, the recently hired Celtics "big man" assistant coach, is apparently not going to let Jefferson get away with making those kinds of promises lightly.

Thinking on the guys Clifford Ray has worked on (Dampier, Boozer, Howard), you can see that these guys have made improvements in their games. Can't see why Jefferson wouldn't make drastic improvements either.

I think next season will be Big Al's breakout year...all thanks to Clifford Ray. God bless Danny Ainge for bringing him in.

Right. Now we need Ainge to bring in an assitant to help with our defense, and then we will be set.

Speaking of assistants; no word yet on whether Pete Carill will join a team for next season. I'd sure like to see him in Boston.

If I'm not mistaken, Pete Carill's allegiance lies with Jeff Petrie. Rick Adelman (former head coach) is no longer with the Kings, but Petrie is. Wouldn't Carril still remain with Sacramento?
I would like to get Carril here, though. Our offense is pretty solid as it is, but Carril would make us even better.

Carill left in a huff. Was not happy with the way Adelamn was treated and said if he coached it would be with an East Cost team nearer his home in New Jersey. There was some speculation that he would join his stundent Jordan with the Wizards, but there has been no word. We know that Ainge offered him a job last summer, but he returned to Sacramento and there was the Celtics' mysterious announcement that only one of the two coaching vacancies would be filled,

Hey hey hey, we could be onto something. Yes, Ainge definitely is interested in Carri, as we've seen last year. And Carril was very close to coming over, but at the last minute decided to remain with Petrie. But now that he's off the hook and looking to latch onto an eastern conference team, I would really like to have him be our offensive coach.
