Get me this kid with the 7th pick. That's how much I believe in this kid's ability to be a future shot blocking juggernaught.
If we get Sene, and we wait a few years for him to develop, we will have arguably the best team in the league, along with the strongest bench in the NBA (this is actually the main purpose of this thread).
Sene at Center, averaging 4 ~ 5 bpg and owning the paint.
Jefferson at PF, 1/3 of our big scoring trio.
Green at SF, the other big scoring trio
Pierce at SG, the third member of our big scoring trio
Jay Williams, the guy whose dream is to average 8 ~ 10 apg by setting up Jefferson, Gerald, and Pierce. Deadly shooter who will get lots of scoring opportunities because of our Big 3
Backing Sene is Perkins. Rugged big man who rebounds and blocks shots by playing physical.
Backing Jefferson is Ryan Gomes. Knack for getting loose balls and converting offensive rebounds will make him a guy who gets a lot of playing time off the bench. As solid as they come.
Backing Gerald and Pierce at SF/SG are Wally Szczerbiak and Tony Allen.
Backing JWill is Delonte West. Steady PG who will not throw away the game. Shooting presence off the bench and a smart, high IQ guy.
We go 10 deep with no problem. Perkins, Gomes, and Delonte are ideal bench guys because of the way they play. They are borderlline starters on a championship team, but they are solid bench contributors who make a big difference with the 2nd unit.
I don't know the future of Wally and Tony. I like both but Wally is a big contract guy and if he wants a big contract after his current one expires, we may not be able to afford him. And will he be able to handle being a future bench guy? And Tony has a heck of a lot of ability, but he needs to focus on harnessing those abilities. He's all over the place right now and a bit out of control. He's a lock if he can play under control and make a consistent impact with his athletic scoring ability. But if he can't, he may be moved.
But back up wing players are easier to find, especially when a team is contending for a title. Everyone wants to play for a championship caliber team.
C'mon Ainge, make it happen!!
