The Nuggets are prepared to trade any player on their roster exempting Carmelo Anthony. Any team can have Kenyon Martin essentially for nothing, no joke, if you classify $71 million over the next five seasons nothing . . .
Peter Vecsey/NY Post *********
Would you do a Raef for Kenyon trade, straight up? Martin has 5 more years ( 3 more than Raef) on a huge contract, but if his knee is not seriously damaged, he's twice the asset. I don't believe our ownership would consider this because of cap considerations, but it's a shame, because this is the kind of move that will probably be necessary to get the Celtics into contention.
According to Real GM it works.
Boston Trade Breakdown Outgoing Raef LaFrentz 6-11 C from Kansas 7.8 ppg, 5.0 rpg, 1.4 apg in 24.7 minutes Incoming Kenyon Martin 6-9 PF from Cincinnati 12.9 ppg, 6.3 rpg, 1.4 apg in 27.6 minutes Change in team outlook: +5.1 ppg, +1.3 rpg, and 0.0 apg.
Successful Scenario Due to Denver and Boston being over the cap, the 25% trade rule is invoked. Denver and Boston had to be no more than 125% plus $100,000 of the salary given out for the trade to be accepted, which did happen here. This trade satisfies the provisions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

I would do that trade in a hot second, but I seriously doubt Denver would.

I don't see us doing this. Raef's contract is a key for us here.
Raef and Wally's contracts both expire the last year of Al, Delonte, and Tony's contracts. The following year we are going to need big bucks to sign all of them if they pan out to what we expect them to. We will have the money from both of those big contracts to resign our young stars. Danny may have planned it that way and if so, what a genius. But either way, those two contracts expire at the right time for us to keep our kids and not lose them as at that time they should be right there on the all star level.

Raef and Wally's contracts both expire the last year of Al, Delonte, and Tony's contracts. Wow. I didn't know that. In that case, I wouldn't trade Raef for K-Mart.
