Excerpt:
{Boston has yet to exercise its option on Gomes for the 2006-2007 season, but it is a good bet they wouldn't send him off to Nevada without squaring up on the deal for season No. 2 in the NBA. Gomes' agent, Andrew Woolf, said the team has until June 30 to make a decision. Should the C's wave Gomes, which is highly unlikely, he'll pocket $300,000 and look to sign elsewhere. If the Celtics pick up year two of the three year-deal, which is likely, he'll make $670,000 next season.}

I don't see any scenerio how they don't resign him. Big mistake if they don't. But he is going to play in the summer league and I just don't see them not picking up the option. I love the way all our kids are such hard workers. I think the best part of this article is where they describe his daily routine.
You just gotta love a kid who works this hard. This is why the Celtics are going to be a much improved team this year.

I wasn't a big fan of Gomes in college, thought he was just a meat and potatoes guy who was too undersized to do much in the NBA. But I'm very happy with him and glad that he's a Celtic. He can be a spot starter or a very effective bench guy. I hope that Doc will give him a pretty important role in the rotation.

DERRIN ************** It's sad that guys who can play; Gomes and Perkins had to be forced into the lineup by injuries and trades. I'm really not sure Doc knows what he's doing most of the time. Ryan is just a player, regardless of what position, but me thinks that after a bit more seasoning at the three (that's got to be why he's being sent to Vegas), he'll become a fixture in the line up. As soon as he can consistently hit the fifteen foot jumper, he should get the starting nod.Gomes is already, imho, the best defender at the three, on the roster. I would bring Szczerbiak off the bench to back up the two/three to give some scoring and confident play making to the second unit. Remember in 2004-05, it wasn't until Doc started bringing Ricky Davis off the bench that the team began to win? It's a shame Ricky wouldn't accept that role this past season. Sixth men are probably more important than the 4th and 5th starter in terms of impact on the game, don't you think? Red must have known something to have kept; Ramsey, Havlicek and McHale in that role.

Plain and simple, Gomes is a player and knows how to play. Whether it be as a PF or SF, he can be effective at either position because he's just knowledgeable of what to do on the floor, even without the ball in his hands. He's one of the best at crashing the boards and putting back shots for easy baskets. He's good around the basket and I believe he can be used as a post scorer on isolations.
In many ways, he's just like that other Providence guy--Eric Williams.

Nah, E-Will was a pretty good garbage guy for us, and Gomes seems to be an able fit for that position. Gomes can put up points without having a play called for him, much like E-Will used to.

Yeah but before he was a garbage guy he was good. He looked like he might be really good like the night he played center against Zo and when he started the season averaging 18ppg for the Denver Nuggets for 4 games as a starter before he got hurt for the whole season.

Perhaps w/ the draft, the Celtics management team is a bit slow. Gomes is a heck of a player.
