If Gomes is getting set to play at the sf position I think Wally gets traded, especially if we go big in this draft. Cause then Gomes doesn't need to play pf and you got something looking like this hypothetically
sf Pierce, Gomes pf Al, TT sg GGreen, TA
See what I mean? No room for Wally. Wally, Raef, Al, and a future draft pick or DD or Scala or something go somewhere for a KG, or JON or Bosh or something. We keep a lot of youth, ok on salary cap, become dominant. It's that simple. That's the flexibilty drafting Gomes has gotten us. I really think getting Gomes so late in the draft was a key pick that gave us a lot of flexibility and allowed us to deal from a position of strength. Before it was like we couldn't bear to trade TA. A year later after making 3 successful picks, all of which are swing men capable it's not the end of the world.
The other thing I really like about our roster and DAs drafting is that nearly every player is somewhat interchangable and capable of playing multiple spots. Even Raef and Scala. There is hardly a player that can only play one spot. Tall pgs, guys that played two positions in college, guys that played 3 positions on other teams. It's again, a lot like what the Pats do.

The way I see it, if Pierce is given an extension, that will spell the end of Wally's future with us once his contract ends. Pierce is going to command big money. Gerald and Jefferson will too. Tony's versatility and defense makes him a guy to hold on to.
If Ainge doesn't give Pierce a contract extension this summer, I think it'll mean that he's still trying to figure out who the team would be better with down the road--Wally or Pierce.

Because DA keeps drafting and signing guys capable of several positions I think PP has the edge on Wally, cause I think PP can play two positions better, and while I think PP is the better player talentwise and heartwise I think Wally might be the better fit if GG becomes the next PP. I just don't think Kobe and MJ could have played on the same team and I think GG and PP might have that situation, whereas Wally passes more. Also Wally led a bad MAC college team to the NCAAs (he was like the Adam Morrison of his day) whereas PP couldn't get a loaded Kansas anywhere for three years. He was like the JJ of his day. Also since DA keeps going with guys that can play multiple positions and take advantage of matchups I think guys like Shelden and R Foye have big advantages on guys like TT and Rondo.

Hmmm... good points Eja. One note to add is that Wally is better suited for a run and gun offense, and an offense that does a lot of passing and having the open guy take the shot. He's got more ability to fit into a pass and shoot offense. Pierce is a ton more skilled at getting his own points, and setting up for his own shot.
But then again, it'll depend on the type of offense we are going to stick with. Can GG and PP coexist on the same team? Jordan could play next to Pippen only because Pippen was more than willing to play second fiddle to MJ.

sig says what he says . pp ain't going anywhere. the owners care too much about attendance and rightly so. trading pp for unproven chips takes the fanchise back for a couple of years and it's financially unapprovable.

Had Pierce not denied the trade last summer, we would have seen Chris Paul running the show for us this past year.
I'm not saying Pierce is on his way out. But no one can guarantee that Pierce is not going anywhere.

I really don't want Paul to be traded, but I have to admit that I kinda wish that trade went down last summer. Chris Paul is amazing and he would look good in green...

Certainly does make you wonder, though. Chris Paul is a type of PG who comes along once in a long while. He took a bad team and made them playoff contenders (for the first half of the season) in his very first year. And he looked so much like a veteran. Amazing talent, he is.
