Greg Dickerson made some interesting points on WEEI yesterday.
1) Because M. Williams had a poor workout and came into the workout out of shape (220 lbs) he doesn't think it's likely the C's draft him. 2) Danny love Randy Foye and Shannon Brown 3) Jefferson is in good shape, he is working out very hard, has more upper body definition. Greg thinks Big Al will have a "monster year". He thinks that last year being injured and having all the criticism was a good thing as it motivated him and gave him a new resolve to have a break out year this year. He spoke to him and he understands now that he has to work off the court as well and be in better condition and knows that nothing will be handed to him. Greg didn't see us needing to get another big like S Williams because of it. 4) Perk's surgery is not a big deal. He will have to take it easy and be in a sling for 2 months but will still have around 6 weeks to work with Clifford Ray before camp starts.

I have always thought Foye would be higher on Danny's draft board than Williams, even though Marcus is more of a true point. Foye just brings a lot more to the table.
Having said that I wouldn't be disappointed in drafting either of them.
I also believe especially with the hiring of Clifford Ray that Danny and Doc are committed to the big guys we have right now, and I don't see Ainge drafting a big unless one of the projected top 5 slip to us. (Aldridge, Tyrus Thomas, etc.)

Good find, FL12. Wonder if Ainge will try to fanagle another draft pick to secure Shannon Brown? Not like we need another wing player (a young one at that), but he's a fiery competitor and very athletic.

The one thing i know about foye, and brown is that they're tough. Brown played at MSU under IZZO, and foye played for jay wright at nova. Foye had to be tough because nova primarily played a 4 guard set. Good to hear Big AL taking the offseason seriously. I still think we need to add a veteran DEFENSIVE BIG MAN. Perk and jefferson still get into foul trouble to quickly for my liking.

So far among bigs, we have Perk, AJ, Raef, Scal, and Jones (with Gomes presumably still playing the 4, in spite of fact that Cs have asked him to lose weight and work on ball handling.
Seems to me that any of the bigs being discussed (not counting Morrison as a big) would be worth adding. Just be sure that anyone picked has a warrior mentality about playing D and rebounding.

That's what went through my head, GC34. Foye (and Shannon Brown) are "skilled" and "aggressive" players. These are the types of players you want because you want players who take initiative. Better to have a player who needs to taper down his aggressiveness than have a player who you need to push all the time.
Danny may like Foye and may want to draft him. But if he wants him, he'll have to move up because I'm sure either Atlanta or Minnesota will swoop him up before we get a chance to. They are in need of a PG. Atlanta picks at 5, and if they are given the choice between Foye or Gay, they could very well take Foye because of their glut at the wings (Joe Johnson, Josh Smith, Josh Childress, Al Harrington(?), Marvin Williams, Salim Stoudemire). Their PG's are Tyrone Lue and Royal Ivey, and Foye has more talent than these 2.
Atlanta may take Marcus Williams, but from all accounts, Foye is really ripping up these workouts and making a bigger impression.
If for some reason, ATL decides not to take Foye, Minnesota could. McHale may roll the dice on Banks being their future PG (they also have Marco Jaric), but I can't expect him to pass up on a talent like Foye.
Having a big season is the best thing for Al. If he sees immediate gratification for his hard work this offseason, it will convince him to keep working hard throughout the season and even harder during the offseason.

If ATL takes Foye, most likely it will mean us getting Brandon Roy. I don't mind Roy, but I sure would like to grab Foye.

If ATL takes Foye, most likely it will mean us getting Brandon Roy. I don't mind Roy, but I sure would like to grab Foye. I like Roy....as a basketball player but not for our team. I am not sold on him playing point guard full-time, and that is what I think we need from this draft. We have so many wingmen that if we select another one our roster is going to look like the New York Knickerbockers. I am hoping that ATL selects Marcus Williams over Foye, and goes with the "sure thing", the truer point guard to make up for last year not selecting Paul. Then I am hoping Rudy Gay slips to Minny and they snatch him up and run with a starting 5 of center?, KG, Gay, Ricky, Banks. But you are right DM, Foye is establishing himself as the number one point guard in the draft. I would not be disappointed with Marcus Williams either, but Brandon Roy, although a GREAT prospect, and maybe the most NBA ready in the whole draft, we just do not have a need for another 2 guard.

I just read a piece about Toronto looking at Williams and wanting to draft him and either taking him at 1 or trying to move down to take him.... I am hesitant to take Williams because if he showed up for workouts out of shape, this shows a glitch in his work ethic. We don't need a player we are going to have to push to stay in shape. I would take Foye over Williams.... If both are taken, one of the top bigs will fall to us and we would have to take him. I see Roy as more of a wing and we definitely don't need another wing. We need to take either a point or a big....

Wow, Toronto will be the laughing stock of the league if they take Marcus Williams with the 1st pick. If they want to draft him, we can use our 7th to take him and send him over to them.
I'm sort of seeing a multi-scenario taking shape.
If Foye is swiped up before the 7th, we may take Patrick O'Bryant. Or if Ainge isn't sold on O'Bryant, we may move down a bit to grab Rajon Rondo.

I can't see Toronto taking Marcus Wiliams with the 1st pick. It's more likely going to be either Aldridge or Bargnani. And if Bargnani does become the 1st pick then you might see a droppage within the top 7.

Almost all indications are that Toronto will take Bargnani with the #1. Colangelo has been heavily scouting Bargnani for 3 years now, even when he was with Phoenix. He's been discussing contract situations with Bargnani's people for some time now. I would not flinch ifToronto takes him. Its not like there's a surefire top pick in this draft anyways.
Tyrus Thomas may be the one who falls a bit. I doubt Chicago takes him in front of LaMarcus Aldridge. I don't think Charlotte will feel the need to draft him when they can take Morrison or Gay. Portland may end up taking him at #4. If they don't, Tyrus may fall even more because I don't know if Atlanta will take him when they have a more pressing need at PG.
It may be possible that Tyrus becomes available at 7.

I think Portland might not want him because they have Zach Randolph unless they think he can play center, but then they'd have two rather short big men. They don't have the best pg or sg situation.
You'd think ATL with all their tons of forward wouldn't need him unless again they think he can be a center and compete with Primoz Brezec, though they have pg issues.
You'd think MInn would only want him if he can play center or they plan on putting KG at center or trading KG.
Do we even want him considering we have Al and Gomes? Considering Perk is hurt again and Al has had ankle problems a lot, yes. Yes we do.
