Guys and gals, our future championship(s) could lie on the shoulders of Cliffor Ray, and how he drastically improves our big men. By now, we've all heard what Ray has been able to do with the Chief, with Jermaine O'Neal, and most recently Dwight Howard. If I'm not mistaken, Perkins worked out with Ray last summer and we've seen the strides Perk has made in his game last year after a short time with Ray. Now imagine having him throughout the summer and all year round!
We need Cliff Ray to bring out the beast in Al Jefferson. We need Big Al to blossom into the scorer and rebounder he has the ability to be. Al has the most talents among our big men, but has the least amount of fire in his belly to out work his opponents during the offseason. If he dedicates himself into working on his game and conditioning, with the right tutoring, Big Al should make the big improvements in his game we were hoping to see this past year. Ray needs to make sure Al pushes himself and Ray needs to get Al to play like a beast. Al can be a big time rebounder and Al can be an exceptional shot blocker. But he needs a mentor to teach him how to bring it out of him.
Getting Ray should pay enormous dividends toward developing our young bigs compared to just letting the young guys develop their games on their own. But I wouldn't stop there--I would go after Dave Cowens as well and have him work with our bigs as well. Rebounding has been a weakness of ours for far too long. No weak rebounding team has ever been champion. This is where we need to make an immediate improvement on. Rebounding directly ties into defense because keeping teams from getting second and third chances will keep them from scoring more than us--and that's the name of the game.
Having a strong rebounding and defensive anchor inside the paint will be huge for our future success. Getting Ray is a huge plus, in my book. It can only help us get better. There's no down side to this move at all.
