What do all of you think Danny may possibly do in this off-season to be able to compete for next year?
I honestly think that if we are not very competitive next year, it may be the end of the Ainge era. I certainly would not agree because I totally have been in favor with almost 100% of all of Ainge's moves/decisions since he has been here. He has completely reformed the Pitino/Obie team into an up and coming, young, energetic, and very talented group of players each with a different type of upside.
I just think people will be impatient and want to win sooner rather than later. In essence, we have been rebuilding for about 3 years although most rebuilding projects are 4-5 years or sometimes even more. Look at the Bulls. Since Jordan left Chicago, they have been rebuilding and they still are now some 9 years later and are just starting to put together a competitive team. Granted, they rebuilt from scratch while Danny has rebuilt around Pierce but you can get my point.
Having said that, what will be done this off-season? We have already heard Ainge will probably go best available in this draft as he usually does. He likes shooters. He has said he needs a star player at the 4/5 or point guard position. That could turn out to be one of our guys developing or it could mean acquiring another player.
I think he will explore getting: KG/Bosh/O'Neal/Baron/Bibby but ultimately the price will be too high.
He then will explore other lower-tier guys such as: Boozer, Nene, Al Harrington/Tinsley, etc.
I think a trade will go down in the off-season addressing either the 4 spot or point guard more likely the 4 spot because Delonte is basically fine for now.
I also thinks Danny wants to see if Perk can work on his game a little more in the off-season and be the future center of this team, next year being his make or break season if he can prove he can be a Ben Wallace type of defender or not.
Other than that who knows. I know that they will work on Big Al's conditioning and ways to improve his durability. This season, in my eyes was a waste for him. When he was healthy, he was on the bench. And when he would have had an opportunity to maybe play, he was hurt.
I also think next year G$ (if he is still here and not traded) will be a potent weapon off the bench. I already can't wait until summer league for next year to see how he develops.
