The guy can play. But Im sorry, he is NOT a PG. He has no right hand, cant dribble and penetrate and makes the most awful passes in the clutch. So much for his bball IQ. This team NEEDS a good PG. Danny better start looking for one soon.
BTW, did I tell you that this team is composed of mental midgets? And that Doc sucks donkey balls? Or that they wont win 40 games next season, even if they are perfectly healthy?

I'm sure many people said that about Billups during his first two years in the league. And Nash did not set the world on fire his first two years either. It is ridiculous to write off West, who is only in his first full season and has shown great improvement in his game since the beginning of the year.

Honestly Sprash, D West is probably better than any free agent point guard that will be available on the market this summer. The only way we will get a bonafide All-Star veteran point guard is by trading either Pierce, Big Al, Perk, young guys and draft picks.
That would be dumb. We would have a point guard with noone to pass the ball to.
I still think Danny has his eye on a point guard in the draft though.

Sprash there is almost no PG in the league who has been around only two years who is better than West. Telfair? No S Livingston? Definitely not B Gordon? Doesn't start and doesn't play PG. Duhon? Not any more Derron Wiliams? No Raymond Felton? No Nate Robinson? No Jarret Jack? No Salim Stoudamire? barely a PG and no. Daniel Ewing and Monta Ellis? Puhlease. No Oriene Greene? No Antonio Burks? No
Your only possible options are maybe Jameer Nelson who just missed like a third of the season to injury and obviously Chris Paul who is one of the best young pgs maybe ever. What do you want from this guy.
Here are players that have been in the league or were drafted a year or two longer/before him.
Juan Dixon. No Frank Williams. Remember him? No Steve Logan. Dan Dickau Dejuan Wagner and Jay Williams. Crippled by injuries TJ Ford. Maaaaaaaybe better but missed a whole season to injury. I'll take West who is like 7 inches taller Marcus Banks. Troy Bell. Out of the league Zoran Planninic Steve Blake. Does an admirable job under tragic conditions. Not better than West Reece Gaines. His experiment at PG lasted a blink
Your only possible arguments are Kirk Heinrich, Luke Ridenhour. Dwayne Wade and Leandro Barbosa have become SGs.
So out of the 30 or so guys listed at the PG positon the last 4 years D West is clearly in the top 4 or so despite almost no experience at the position. What do you want from the guy? It was a draft miracle to get this guy at like 21.

That is some great analysis Eja.
The PG is the hardest position to transition into the NBA to. West has done more than an admirable job. Though, I think we could upgrade the position, and move him to the 2.

Other than Kidd, Nash, and Paul their isn't many True PG in this league.
not to mention there is slim pickings in what PGs are available in trade:
Andre Miller Stephon Marbury Possibly AI Stevie Francis baron Davis
and possibly Luke Ridnour

West could move to the two guard if Ainge drafts a point like Randy Foye in the 1st round, or Tony Skinn in the 2nd round and either fill the role.
I am against Marbury or Francis. Both are overpriced garbage players.

I would rather see us get Collins. I just like the kid. I think he can come in and play right away and would fit right in with the personality of the team. We could then use West at the 1 or the 2 with Greene as the third PG.
West came into the league as a 2 and has had to learn to play the 1. It is the hardest position to learn and he has made incredible progress learning it. He is also a hard worker driven to get better. I can see him working over the summer and blowing everyone away next year by going to his right. It takes PG's a couple of years to really develop. This team has been too impatient over the years and have given up on players too quickly. With some patience, we are going to see our young guys develop and see the Celts back in the top echelon of the NBA.

no matter who will declare and where we pick i have a very positive feeling that we will get a very decent player from the draft day. pick or trade, doesn't matter
