The other day on WEEI, Doc said in an interview that he thought that Gerald $ would show the most improvement out of all of the young guys next year. This surprised me, not so much the credibility of the statement, but because it came from Doc. Usually he "really" makes his younger players earn their PT, and I expect the same with Green, but I was surprised he had such great praise for the kid and expected he would get ample PT next year, especially with his hesitancy to use the younger guys in extended minutes earlier in this season.
I think Gerald Green has great potential and we have seen some flashes already in his first year out of high school. He has bulked up considerably since the draft, can get to the rim at will, has a nice jumper, is super athletic, can rebound already over older and experienced players, and seems to want to be great. He even has the confidence of some of the vets on the team; wanting more PT for him, including the captain Pierce.
I think the sky is the limit for how good this kid can be. Let's hope that he can reach his potential and become a future star for the C's in the future, and a solid bench player next season.

don't forget that tony allen should make a giant leap as well. doc predicted it for this season but the injury unfortunately derailed tony's season. so - we have a lot to wait for next season...

You're right BC. This was supposed to be a year for T Allen to take that big step, ala D West, but the incident/injury really slowed his progression. But thankfully, we have seen glimpses of the old T Allen in recent weeks, so hopefully next year if the knee is healthy and he can get back to 100% he can really help bolster the bench on the offensive end, the defensive end, and on the boards as well. I think him and Gerald Green could form a nasty combo off the bench next year. Just check out Fl's avatar.

I agree that next year is going to be a good year for us. Green has already made huge strides this year. He has come a long way from the deer in the headlights to how he plays now. He is one of our better defenders for the most part although at times he loses his man but even the vets do that. He has such a huge upside that it is exciting. Allen is going to make a leap ahead also as long as his legal problems don't sideline him. Another player who will have a break out year is Al. He came into the preseason poised to do that this year but after that first sprain it took him so long to come back that he was out of shape and then finally was showing signs of what he could do and sprained the other ankle. I am looking for a huge year from him next year. Along with these 3 players, look for big improvement from Perk, Gomes and West and we will be right there with the top teams. I really believe that. The only thing I worry about is Doc. If he improves and somehow we get a defensive minded assistant or Doc decides that defense is important, we will be great. Doc doesn't stress defense and he needs to. Our coaching is my only worry.

something needs to be done about our defensive strategies indeed. for example hiring an assistant coach who is all about defense would help if you don't want to change your head coach

I have to wonder what would have happened if certain other high school players had played under Doc. I think maybe DA puts pressure on Doc to treat them fairly. I have a feeling if Telfair, Swift, Kwame, Eddy Curry, Diop, Chandler, and Livingston had played for him they would have had nervous breakdowns and been out of the league, traded, or in jail. Martel Webster would have been sucked down a black hole. Monta Ellis and Andray Blatch would be shacked up with Elvis somewhere in Montana. Amare and D Howard would be in the rotation and probably starting most of the time but would have been very frustrated by weekly comments from Doc like "Needs a lot of growth", "Not there yet" "Needs to work on defense" "Still learning" "Needs extra coaching" "Needs to find consistency" "needs to work on his shot" "Needs to fill out" etc.
