Danny was on WEEI for his weekly interview. Here are the highlights of the interviiew:
He is out west watching the NCAA tournament. He mentioned watching Morrison 3 times earlier but not recently. Ordway asked him to compare Reddick and Morrison and he said they are different from each other. Both will be good complementary players in the NBA but neither will be perennial all stars.
Pierce has taken his game to the next level since the trade. He feels a better fit for this team and feels more comfortable. We have much better chemistry and he has been a much better leader and the other players accept him more as a leader. When Danny first took over the team he didn't believe that PP could become a leader. He saw him as more of a follower. He has the perfect work ethic to be a leader and now with no Toine, Payton or Ricky he has picked his game up and knows if he passes, he will get the ball back in a better position to score. Pierce has elevated his play and professionalism and that of the whole organization.
In the Memphis game we didn't respond to their size and it was our lack of defense that beat us. They were more desperate than we were.
Danny said that it has not been easy with the salary cap, luxury tax, and different issues such as the Baker contract still on the books but that we can see light at the end of the tunnel now. We aren't there yet. but that we can see the light. We have one or two pieces to add. First we need the development of the kids we have to speed up. The one big piece he will be looking to add this summer is another big scorer off the bench behind PP and Wally. It could be at the 1, 2 or 3 spot. He is looking for a high caliber player who will fit the chemistry that this team has built. Ordway asked about Delonte maybe moving to the 2 and Danny said if we got a fantastic 1 that possibly West could move to the 2 and play some back up 1 but that Delonte is great at the 1 and likes him there.
Not sure if he will get that quality player via draft, trade or free agency and they are narrowing it to the type of player they want. We may need another quality big depending on how quickly Al, Perk and Ryan develop. Mentioned that they aren't good enough now. Ryan has come on great, Perk was playing very well and that Al has been hampered by the injuries. The second sprain was worse than the one in training camp and he is still hampered by it quite a bit. He doesn't have the experience to be able to overcome injuries like this and play through them but he is learning.
He mentioned Allen Ray of Villanova as the type of player he is looking at. Good scorer.
That is the gist of it. He said more but I can only type so fast.... Here is the link to the interview if you want to listen to it yourself.
