Q's post game wrap -
Nice win tonight, and a good road trip overall.
The Celtics deserved it after the bad breaks they have gotten this year.
Lakers had much more athletic talent but played with little passion until the 4th qtr.
Ronnie Turiaf was a find for them..... Kwame sucks, play Ronnie Turiaf.
I'm glad to see the Celtics pick up a win and beat another WC playoff contender on their home court.
Player of the Game - Ryan Gomes with his baskets and put backs..... What a great pick with the 50th selection last year, Danny Ainge......
Other game notes: Chris Mihm has not distinguished himself as an NBA starting center. I would have signed him to Scrubbabrinesque type contract with the idea of him becoming a backup to Perkins. But we made the mistake of rewarding Blount. Blount has been doing very little in Minnesota, BTW.....
Lamar Odom led the Lakers come back, not Kobe.
Szczerbiak wasn't much of a factor tonight, nor was Raef LaFrentz.
Celtics will get better once Perkins and Jefferson return.

Gomes was 8 for 10 tonight. Had 5 off. rebounds tonight.+
When is last time Cs had someone get double figures on rebounds 3 games in a row?

Wonder how much of PPs offensive burst is indirectly related to Davis being gone, and opening some stuff up for him?
Any ideas?

Perhaps its the fact that the trade deadline has passed. Though, I would hope its just RD was so similiar to P2, opportunities for him are presenting themselves.

Silly Iowa. I thought it was Gomez, rather than Gomes. Spelling and insinuating. Inunsuating?

Gomes was 8 for 10 tonight. Had 5 off. rebounds tonight.+ When is last time Cs had someone get double figures on rebounds 3 games in a row? Actually, Perk did it four games in a row before he hurt his shoulder. I can't wait to see these two play together, along with Jefferson. They can make a great three man rotation, or even move Gomes over to the three for spurts. That can be a monster rebounding front-line! On LA radio, Mychal Thompson gave due credit to Pierce and West, but pointed out Gomes as the player of the game. Every time LA got a stop it seemed, Gomes was there for the put back and deprived LA of momentum. Awesome road trip. One reason I was so disappointed in the Cleveland loss is that with our then 4-20 road record I was a bit anxious about a four game road trip without all our horses ... I was HOPING for 2-2, but 3-1 is delightful and a great confidence boost. Also, I think Pierce's offensive explosion is part due to trading Davis, as is West's recent career-best numbers. Heinsohn had mentioned recently that Boston was looking to but more of the ball-handling in West's hands, as before Ricky and Pierce together dominated the ball. I still love Ricky and admire his overcoming his bad reputation, but for our team this deal was best, as Wally plays more off the ball, and is a better safety valve when teams focus on Pierce, and also West gets to handle the ball more and grow into a more decisive scorer and a better play-maker. Great comments on the C's by Greg Anthony: sports.espn.go.com/nba/dailydime?page=dailydime-060227&lpos=spotlight&lid=tab3pos1 I is really looking like this team is on its way!! There will still be some growing pains, but as the younger players keep stepping up and taking more responsibility and entrench themselves in the rotation, we will only get better and better.

Ok so this is my point about Gomes being better than Al J. Possibly a lot better.
Let's say Gomes had been injured and Al J had played instead. Do you think he would have gone for 19 and 12? I don't. What sounds more believable
"Hey buddy! Gomes went for 19 and 12 last nite and the Celts beat the Lakers"
or
"Hey buddy! Al J went for 19 and 12 last nite and the Celts beat the Lakers"
or
"Hey buddy! Perk went for 19 and 12 last nite and the Celts beat the Lakers"
Perk and Gomes are totally believeable and AL J isn't. That's why Gomes is better. Cause he plays harder and wants to win more. That's what Doc doesn't get. SO many successful NBA players like Doc and DA had so much talent and see talent as such a birthright that they can't get past hustle, desire, etc.
Gomes is that guy in the gym who pisses talented guys off, cause he's less talented, but smarter and plays harder and makes everyone arounnd him better and his teams always win more.

I agree that the trade benefits us by putting the ball in West's hands more. He is really blossoming and has become a very, very good point guard. Last night 19 points 10 assists shows that he is developing a great instinct for when to score and when to pass. I really like this kid.
The trade also benefitted our ball movement. Too often the ball would stall with Ricky as he tried to create for himself. Or with Pierce while he tried to create for himself. or with Blount who did whatever he felt like. With Wally, the offense seems to have a much better flow and is so much more efficient and we are less turnover prone this way (With Blount taking his 5 or 6 TO's to Minny with him). Ricky is thriving in the Minny system and I think it was good for him as well.
I love that article by Anthony. Good to see writers seeing the potential on this team. We are very young but the young players we have are talented and have a tremendous upside. We are seeing these players develop in front of our eyes. Gomes certainly is proving to be a very, very good player and I feel is going to end up being the steal of the draft. I love this team and love the chemistry I see coming around.
Good post mev.... Karma for the Anthony article. It made my day!!!

This is priceless.... Kobe either saying thanks or telling her what calls to make next. I really, really wish we had more female refs so that when everyone says Violet is the worst ref in the league it wouldn't sound sexist... but she really is the worst ref in the league and it has nothing to do with her being female. It seems that she picks her favorite team and then does her best to help them win. The Celts have never been her favorite team.

What a nice photograph, flceltfan. I have a nickname for Violet Palmer and it is impolite for me to say it on these forums.

That last call by Violet on Kobe had me really puzzled. It was just so uncharacteristic of her to make that call. Then it hit me. Pierce was going strong to the basket. He had already gone around Kobe and he was almost certain to take it straight to the basket and jam it to give us a 2 point lead and possibly get a 3 point play with little or no time on the clock. Well Violet called the foul to stop the clock and give the Lakers a chance to win it. Knowing that Pierce hasn't been all that great on the line especially late in games it was possible he would miss 1 or possibly both and give the Lakers their best chance at winning it.
Not all that far fetched if you have watched Violet ref very much.

Will be interesting to see hwo Doc passes out minutes when Perk and AJ come back. It would seem likely that Gomes will get time at 3 and 4, which will squeeze Scal. It would seem likely that if Gomes gets time at the 3, PP might get some time at the 2, relieving Wally. Which would squeeze Allen.
