celtics.bostonherald.com/celtics/view.bg?articleid=124601&format=&page=2 Pierce's superhuman efforts are only good enough to keep the Celtics in games. West, Perkins, LaFrentz, and Wally need to step up more. (Jefferson when he gets back on the court) We need bench help from Orien Greene, Tony Allen, and some big man (Gomes preferrably but Doc won't play him -choosing Scalabrine) Sorry, this again falls on Doc Rivers to teach the players. I suspect Wally is sick over this. I suspect Raef is sick over his lack of physical ability to give them a consistant prescence. Pierce will command top dollar to stay in Boston - if he wants to stay. But we have to be prepared for life after Pierce should he tell the Celtic front office to go to hell after this season is over.

We definitely should be prepared for life after Paul Pierce. He's lost so much over the past couple of years that its probably taking its toll on him mentally. And after last summer's near departure from Boston (which would have netted us Chris Paul), he then goes on to lose Ricky Davis and is now going through a disappointing season where we are now 11 games under .500.
It seems very bleak that he will want to remain a Celtic beyond this year if we don't finish this season strong.

Paul Pierce is going to command top dollar from ANY team that wants him. Let's hope they can keep Pierce for long term.

Money alone is not going to keep Pierce in Boston. He wants to play for a winner, and he's probably not going to be happy playing for a non-contending team during the prime years he's got left. If we want to keep him, we have to start winning now and have a bright future to make him want to re-sign a new contract.

From what I've seen so far, I don't see how this team can turn this season around especially with the inconsistenicy play from the other players not named Paul Pierce.

The only way we start winning this year (or turning the season around, like you mention JHVOS) is when the bench starts contributing. The starters do a good job of keeping us in the games. Its when they go out and we put in Orien, Allen, Scalabrine, etc., when we start to struggle a bit.
Also, our defense needs to tighten up a bit.

DA should really focus on developing a strong/balance bench so Doc isn't force to play Wally/Pierce 40+ minutes a game.
Also, one position that really needs to be evaluated has to be the PF position. Either Al prove he can stay healthy enough to make an impact on this team or Ainge should consider trying other options at PF and possibly using this year draft pick to address it. All the other positions are covered for the most part with the P's (Perk/Pierce) and the W's (Wally,West).

If we keep Pierce and Wally, those two positions are the only ones guaranteed (SF and SG). As much as everyone loves Perk and Delonte, if there's ever an opportunity to upgrade the Center or PG position, Danny cannot let it slip by. We could stand to use a more creative playmaking PG and a more athletic Center (although Delonte and Perk are improving with more playing time).

Perk is improving every game. This is the first time he has gotten any real playing time and is still getting better. I don't see any player upgrading us at center. Even Shaq as impressive as he is is on the tail end of his career. Perk is going to be a dominant center for years to come. We are just scratching the surface of what he is going to be. It takes several years for a center to develop and Perk is well on his way.

I'm thinking about the draft. If there's a way to slide in there to get a high pick in next year's draft to go after Oden, Ainge should be looking at ways to acquire that high pick.
Perk is indeed improving, game after game. He's a tough player who goes out and does the dirty work for us without complaining (actually seems to enjoy it--I don't know, how can you tell when he's enjoying something and absolutely hating it?). But he does have his limitations. He's improved his quickness and overall agility, but for the most part, this is where he lacks. The other area is putting back missed shots for points. Trying watching how many offensive rebounds he's able to put back for points. Whereas a lot of the good Centers are able to tip in shots, and quickly score off of offensive rebounds, Perk takes a while to gather himself before going up for the shot attempt.
Yeah, I'm pretty much being picky. I mean, what''s not to love about Perkins? This guy comes to work every game. He puts on his hard hat, clocks in, and just goes to work. He's only 21 years old, is gaining a ton of experience, is improving game after game, and has the right attitude.
But if I'm in charge of assembling a team that can compete for a championship, I have to look at where to improve our team, and those 2 things I've mentioned above about Perkins stands out, IMO.

everybody ha his flaws. from what i've read oden is quite a timid guy - that's even scarier for me than perk's flaws. competitive heart is over everything

In order to keep pierce, Ainge is going to have the hit the free agent market with a flurry. The team needs veteran leadership and a bench. We all knew once antoine left the vocal leadership was gone. Antoine would never take this kind of losing lying down. I cant see pierce hanging around waiting for these kids to develop. I love the truth and i never want to see him leave boston, but he looks like the lone ranger out their, and the minute he goes cold the team is done. This team has no mental toughness. Teams make the slightest run on them, all of a sudden they lose their fight. Until we get mentally tough player we'll continue to struggle. Our road record reflects that lack of toughness.

We need consistent rotations. Last night against Portland was a good start. There is such a thing as getting everyone familier with each other and understanding their roles.
