Last time we tried, we just missed out on the Duncan sweepstakes. This year might be the year in which we net the top pick. With the way things have gone (Jefferson spraining his ankle in the preseason, and now he's injured it again, Tony Allen getting into legal trouble, Dan Dickau out with a torn achilles tendon, etc), seems like we've encountered our share of mishaps. And things usually balance themselves out.
Ironically, the real prize won't be coming out till next year's draft, when Greg Oden is set to be the #1 overall pick. This year's top pick could be Adam Morrison (currently leading the nation in scoring at 29 ppg), but just as ironic is that he's a wing player, and we already are stacked with wing players.

I rather go with Lamarcus Aldridge or Bargnani (if his stock stays high) than go with Morrison unless Pierce wants out.

I don't think things ever balance out for the Celts. It's been downhill pretty much since I was 12 with only brief moments of goodness that weren't sustainable. We're pretty much the Clippers of the East these days. My only hopes lie in Perk and D West these days. As soon as we have another young guy that plays consistently well I'll be happy. I think we need to wait. For one thing it's one of the only things we can do and as we do salary will come off the books. Also we have a decent pg and center for the future which are two of the hardest positions to find talent at. DA did that for us.

Jefferson has been consistent until he got hurt.
But, far as consistenticy goes, I think it needs to start with the coach who has inconsistent rotation. That's when you can start improving as a team when players know there role.

Rivers said in the paper that he had just decided to go with a rotation of Raef, Perk and Al and now Al goes down and we will probably see a lot more of Scal and some Kandi. After watching Kandi last night, I would prefer him to Scal. At least Kandi goes to the basket while Scal seems to stand on the perimeter and bomb away and doesn't seem to get the message that he really isn't a good outside shooter.
Things were so bright back when we had just won our 16th championship and we drafted 3rd and picked Len Bias who would come in and receive the mantle from Bird. Then Bias died and then Reggie died and we had the Pitino show and things have not gone our way for 20 years.
While I would love to think that we could win the lottery and get a great talent there, I just feel that somehow it won't happen. We just can't catch a break! While I am excited that we have some great talent and a lot of potential on this team and expect us to win every game and go on a tear, it seems like it just keeps getting worse. Just when Al was ready to burst out and finally get the playing time to grow, he goes down. <sigh>

Doc must have very little respect for us and think we're all stupid to accept that. We beg and beg all year for a shorter rotation with more minutes for Al and then the minute after he goes down suddenly he was going to shorten the rotation. Good one Doc. Nice try. Very cute.

I didn't realize the club was the 6th worst in the NBA. Its Morrison, or bust.

LaMarcus Aldrigde would be a nice pick, too. But as far as impact is concern, I feel that Moriison would make a bigger splash. I don't feel that Aldridge will become better than Perkins, but Morrison could very well turn out to be better than Wally.
Bargarni is a SF, from what BC tells me. And much like Morrison, we don't need another wing player.
Shelden Williams is a shot blocker/rebounder, but we could probably get him in the late lottery. If we get a high lottery pick, maybe it'd be better to move the pick for a lower one in exchange for a team's unprotected draft pick in next year's draft. Hopefully we'll make this type of trade with a team who's expected to still be a bad team next year so that hopefully we can win Greg Oden.

Man, what Id kill for is a game changing PG. Im not a big prep guy, but I dont think theres one out there. Is there somebody Im missing?
Id kill to go to war with a lineup of:
Stud PG Pierce Wally Aljeff Perk
With a bench consisting of:
Delonte Allen Green Scal/Gomes Raef.
I think that team will be making noise in 2 years. Not title contention, but 50 wins and nothing but smooth sailing ahead.
Im prolly gonna get ragged on for putting Delonte on the best. but i think he would be great 6th man. Id love to see us get a great passer on this team. To me, it seems that great passing is contagious. Look at the Suns. It seems like Nah makes everyone on that team a great passer. I saw KThomas make two passes in that game tha he never wouldve thought about in New York. Thats why I always listen when Livingstons name gets mentioned in trades. I may be off base, but from what Ive heard about the kid, he seems to have crazy court vision.

I know exactly how you feel, Fresh. That Suns game really made me long for a playmaking PG. Nash just sets up his scorers so well, and the players help him out by getting into scoring position. Its truly amazing that he can average 11+ apg, even without the dynamic Amare Stoudemire.
I really enjoy Delonte's character. He's the type of player all Celtics players should strive to be like. But as well as he has been playing, he does leave some to be desired for from the PG spot. He's a solid passing PG, but not a playmaker. He makes the right decisions, but is not creative enough to be able to make something out of nothing.
Getting a stud PG should help us immensly. Just look at how much better the Clippers have become by just getting themselves a steady PG who knows how to score and set up teammates (Sam Cassel).
What about Mike Bibby? Some poster on RealGM thinks Bibby is the final piece to the puzzle that Ainge was hinting at (mentioning the snipit where Ainge says that we are one player away from contending, or something to that effect). Bibby is an excellent PG who can create some offense, as well as set his teammates up. I've never really been impressed with Bibby's game, but his combination of scoring and playmaking ability could be a very good fit with our team because of the way we are trying to establish our offense (lot of passing).
Plus, he's only on the books for another 3 years (at about 12 mil per year), which leaves more than enough time for Delonte to learn as much as he can from Bibby and take over once Bibby's contract expires.

Maybe we need to make a blockbuster swap with Sacremento - Pierce, 'kandi, and Raef for Bibby. Somehow, Artest would go postal on the Sacremento front office if he did that.
