Ya JD is a Two stuck in a small Ones body.
I think he was still one of our bright spots but no one we should keep putting stock into. He would be a better fit somewhere else. He is fine for our G team.

Peterson looked lost out there.
He did well, but he just was stiff and made bad decisions. Looked like he was always out of position to make a play. One step behind. Fine for G team. Investing longterm I think is a mistake.

Springer showed up. Really in control. Picked his spots. Took the big shots when everyone else's shots weren't falling. NBA body for his size. The type of player ready to step into OBrizzy's minutes.

Schei needs work but less than Jordan Walsh which isn't a good thing for Walsh.
I liked that he tried to be a facilitator early and then picked his spots and took his opportunities when given. Really liked what I saw and think he is raw but close. Needs a bit more dev.

Queta did really well but he always just looks like he is maxing effort every time and its just enough to hang at this level.
Queta is very good, however. I only see him ever being a good back up role player one day.
I saw somewhere he is working on his 3 ball. Not sure that will ever pan out or should be a strong part of his game until he puts all these other missing pieces together first.

Watson was there but didn't do anything to really set him apart or stand out. You would've missed him if you didn't see his solid numbers in the boxscore.

Watson was there but didn't do anything to really set him apart or stand out. You would've missed him if you didn't see his solid numbers in the boxscore. Watson is the ultimate team player, like Al. All their scoring comes in the flow of the offense. You kind of want them to be more aggressive, but they'll stick to their team first mindset.

First of all I was highly highly distracted by the Trump assassination last night, but I was able to pause the game a lot and go back a lot.
This is what I thought I did and did not see, and I'm sticking mostly to the Celtics.
In no order.
J Jaquez from the Heat was far and away the best player and had no business whatsoever being in that game. Kinda like when Pritchard played a game last year. It's almost just a test to make sure he actually worked in the offseason on what they told him to. Although he didn't have much of an offseason. It's been like 8 weeks.
If you look at all the Celts and say "Who do you think has the best/longest career in the league?" I'm going with Schei. Didn't blow me away at all, but seemed quite competent. Although he's 24. He's supposed to be better than 20 year old Jordan Walsh. I was trying to explain what he was like to my brother who is in Minnesota and couldn't watch it. I came up with "He's kinda our young Duncan Robinson. A douche. We need a douche like that." I also came up with "Slightly bouncier and better ball handling Kyle Korver. Or Doug McDermott but a better defender and more athletic."
I think Schei is next year's replacement for Hauser. He was a far better defender than I thought, and while I wouldn't call him fast he was far faster than I feared he'd be. If he is lacking athleticism he definitely gets to the right spots and anticipates things.
Jordan Walsh was quite disappointing and needs a lot more seasoning.
Queta is a fine 5th center in this league. He probably has no real chance to beat out Xavier Tillman for playing time, but this is what a 5th guy is supposed to be: young, cheap, energy, effort, thankful to be there, potential. I give you a solid 3% chance he becomes the next Ben Wallace. You give me 100 Quetas and 3 of them become Ben Wallace. I like those odds.
JD Davison.....I'm becoming comfortable with him as a 5th pg. Tough to teach athleticism. I saw a lot of aggression from him. A lot of forcing the defense into decisions. He hit the open man a lot. I feel like if we're gonna have a million guys that shoot the three we might as well have one that goes to the hole.
Ramsey....I want to see a lot more of this guy. I just think unfortunately he's an athletic scorer and it's the last thing we need. Plus I think he might be 26 or something like that.
Springer. Too good for G League. Just would be a waste of time there. No threat whatsoever to Peyton Pritchard.
Everyone else...ok. I respect em.
I think these guys are all totally fine and legit 15th men, which is pretty much what you expect and want from such young guys. If you really need your 15th man then something has gone wrong. But I have a comfort level with all of them. I don't feel an emergency here. If both Jrue and Derrick White go down for 3 weeks and they have to call up JD I don't feel like JD would be the reason we'd lose games. I think he's good enough he could give a solid 15 minutes a night (along with Springer) and they could keep winning.
I thought defense was ok, but not great. Some great defense mixed in with some ok defense.

See Kel'el Ware has been killing it for Miami. I had a really good feeling about this kid and wished we had a shot at him. We would be like "Queta who?" right now. Oh well, we missed out on him.

Yeah, he's looking pretty good. Hopefully he'll be awful anytime he plays us. Or better yet, Watson completely puts the lid on him.

Ok. I watched a ton of Celtics summer league. Not every minute, but a lot.
Here's what I see.
There was no player that showed up and was summer Michael Jordan the way Pritchard did once.
Springer is almost certainly the best player. He is not a threat to Pritchard any time soon.
Queta is easily the 2nd best player. Not a threat to anyone on the roster any immediate time soon.
JD Davison might be the next best. He has shown what he's going to show. I liked the way he kept it simple.
Shei is easily next and it looks distinctly possible that he could be ready to contribute in a reasonable amount of time. Defense is pretty disappointing (especially athletically) but when dialed in he can make a play. Also a much better rebounder than I thought he'd be. I think the regular season might be better for him than summer league. In summer league he was trying to do everything within the context of a team. In regular season he will literally camp out at the three point line and wait for the pass from a very good player being doubled. If I were another team I'd target him much the way they target Pritchard. Pritchard can give you surprisingly good D for 24 minutes, or maybe even 28, but eventually he needs help.
This is where is gets tougher to differentiate.
Gotta go with ...oi vey...House just barely over Anton. A good guard is just harder to find these days than a good 6ft 8 guy. Davison finds the better matchup and the better crack in the armor. House finds the better play. He's a lot older than Davison, but after a year in pro ball it will be interesting to see where those guys are.
Anton...he makes few bad plays but lots of good ones.
Ramsey...super athletic. Just older at 23. This is what I mean by 3 and D guys are easier to find.
Tille....older guy but could help us more.
Jordan Walsh.....I'd easily keep Walsh over Tille but I'm in total shock he didn't come back with a decent three pointer. Huge opportunity lost. Allowed multiple guys to pass him. If he played every game like the last one he'd be way higher up this list.
Ron Harper
Drew Peterson - in no way an NBA player any time soon. Schei is better on his worst day.
Tyler Cook.
The other guy I barely noticed.
The top 4 showed me they don't really need summer league that bad and could possibly contribute on the next level this year. Nobody else did.
Happiest results: I think Schei can do it and I think Queta can help with the loss of Porzingis. If something happens to Pritchard that spot might not fall off a cliff. Same thing with the Hauser position. At least by the time you get to February or March.
Unhappiest result: Walsh needs a ton more seasoning.
