Danny was in the studio on the Big Show and was talking about a lot of things.
When asked about Blount he said that Mark came into camp in great shape and was the best big man there. Then Mark feels slighted for little things like not being the center of the offense or given enough respect etc and stops working. That now that he is with the Wolves he is gung ho again until he feels slighted there for whatever reason. He also said that they were playing Mark in the hopes of playing him and that when Doc benched Blount a week before he was traded they thought they had the deal done for him and then it almost fell through but did go through with the extra players thrown in.
Said that Ben Wallace gets 20.3% of all available rebounds while Perk ges 19.8. Perk is a more polished player and understands the game better than Al but Al has instincts that you just can't teach. He said that Doc has been working with Al trying to get him to be tougher and more aggressive.
He said that PP is not going anywhere. That they have the core of PP, Wally, West, Perk and Al and they need to just build around them, whether it is with our current players developing or with a trade. He has been on the phone constantly and has several things on the table that no one knows about and feels we are one move away from being a perennial contender. He said that a trade may happen before the deadline or it may not but he does have a couple of things going on right now.
Said that people talk about how bad Raef's contract is but he got West, Allen and Jiri who became a Cleveland 1st Round Pick by taking on his contract and that Raef is a good player for us so considering all we got for taking that contract on, it is worth it. He has had offers already for Wally but not going to consider moving him until he knows how it works out. If it doesn't work out the rest of the year, then he may consider it. He expects to talk about extending PP's contract this summer.
Ordway kept trying to get him to say that Wally is better than Ricky but Danny wouldn't say that. He just kept saying that they are different players and that Ricky's style was too much like PP's and that he will fit with Minny much better and that Wally will fit with us because he is a much more efficient player and will score as much on fewer touches. He also said that Wally is better going to the basket than Ricky. He went through the stats for PP, Wally and Delonte saying that they are 3 of the most efficient scorers in the league.
He said that he feels that PP will be playing at the all star level for 4 or 5 more years. Our owners are willing to go over the cap if that is what is needed to be a contender. He said again that we are one move away from being a contender and that it is possible he will move a couple of picks to get another good player.
