The clock on Ainges tenure is ticking. Right now, he seems to have no idea on which direction he wants to go in. FIrst it was athleticism and defense with Banks, ricky, Allen and Reed. Now it is spot up shooting and 'smarts' with Wally. What next? If this continues at the same time next season, time to officially call Ainges era a big failure.

I think people take Ainge's whole 'vision' thing a little to seriously. YOu know what the Ainge ditractors never mention? When AInge said that the main key was to get draft picks and young talent. Hes done that in spades. He inherited a talentless roster with a horrible cap situation. At least now we have a future. I'll pose the wquestion I always use against Ainge detractors: What should he have done, realistically?

Ainge is still right on his original agenda. He's still going after the type of players he's insisted on getting--athletic, smart players who can shoot and think on their feet. He got the athletes he wanted to get (Al Jefferson, Tony Allen, Gerald Green), he got the smart players he wanted (Delonte West, Ryan Gomes), he got the shooters he wanted (Delonte, Wally, Raef), and some other nice pieces (Perk and Orien Greene). Plus, he's got a boat load of first round picks in the upcoming drafts to draft more of the type of players he wants.
The winning will come with time. What more can you expect? He's done a miraculous job with what he's had to work with when he inherited the team.

I agree that Ainge has been doing a pretty good job of stockpiling young talent and draft picks. The problem with long time Celtics fans is that we got Spoiled with all the success of the 60's and 80's. We want instant success and we aren't going to get it. Things are so much brighter for now than they were in 2003. That over achieving team that made it to the EC finals had people thinking they would win the title the next year, but I don't think they had much more in them beyond what they did.
I look at Al and Perk and see a lot of potential there. We see Ben Wallace and J Oneal and the more dominant centers in the game today and forget that it took them years to get to the point where they even contributed. Both of these guys along with others I could name were traded from one team to the next until they landed with a team willing to take the time to develop them. Well, Perk and Al are ahead of the curve in that sense and I have seen tremendous growth in them. Give them another year or two and they will be one of the most dominant front lines in the game. Point guards also usually take longer to develop than most. Delonte is a tough smart player and has really progressed quickly in a short time. Give him another year and we will have a very good floor general. Behind him, Greene shows a lot of progress but he needs playing time and just time to grow into the NBA game.
Green has such a big upside but he is raw. But then if you remember Tracy McGrady when he first came into the league, he was pretty raw too. It took him a couple of years to develop into the player that he is today. TIME AND PATIENCE!!!
We see the promise and want it to develop right away. Danny got young talent. We aren't going to build through free agency because for the most part, the big names and the great players aren't going to want to come here. We aren't good enough to attract a big name, big talent free agent because most of them are chasing a ring. We may get a couple pieces in a trade but for the most part, unless we give up promising players (ie Banks, Ricky, Reed) most teams won't trade. We may get lucky and get a player that hasn't fit into a team's system and who will flourish in ours but that is a long shot.
We need to give this core of players a chance to build chemistry and some continuity and they will be very, very good. But it isn't going to happen overnight. The pieces are in place, now they just have to grow together. We need maybe 1 or 2 more pieces. Right now we need a scorer off the bench. I don't think Green is ready yet as even in the D League he is still very inconsistent and struggling with defense. Maybe with more playing time Gomes will give us more offense because he has a good shot. Or maybe Danny should sign another player for a couple of 10 day contracts or maybe the rest of the year until Green is ready.
We have Kandi who doesn't figure into our plans and can maybe be traded. If Tony Allen could return to his pre-op form, he would be the spark plug we need, but at present he is just a shell of his former self. His shot isn't there and he has no lift. We have all those picks that may be able to bring something. We have lots of assests that we can work with and not destroy the core group. I personnally could do without Scal but that is my opinion. I just don't care for his game.
All in all, we do have a bright future and the pieces are in place to compete. All we need is time and patience.

Another KP for flceltfan........
I say if we had the 2002 ECF team out there with Jim O'Brien out there coaching we would be near the bottom of the league now. The rest of the league would have adjusted like New Jersey did and run the ball down our throats.
We are still paying for our past mistakes made when Wallace and O'Brien ran the team and Ga$ton milked the profits. Got to hand it to him for profiteering off the Vin Baker deal (the hand is in the shape of a fist repeatedly punching the Ga$ton picture-faced punching bag).
Wallace also told me one time on public radio that we don't use a PG in our system and we traded Forte for financial reasons (He left Parker for San Antonio - something that was most inexcusable).
Ainge's strong suit is drafting - and the new ownership has invested a lot in the scouting of hidden college talent. I give him full credit for that. I also think the trades to leverage more draft picks were a good thing. Some of Ainges ideas like Paul Pierce to Portland were brilliant but he got turned down.
Ainge's choice of Doc Rivers for coach appears not to be the best.
Marc Blount stiffed us. Marcus Banks stiffed us. RD was a good guy and a improved team player. Justin Reed was just lost in the numbers game. Ryan Gomes could just as easily be in Minnesota right now. Thankfully Paul Pierce has performed well overall but he is who he is and cannot possibly run the operation by himself. I would not resign him to the max because will not be a max player in three years for now.
Next 6 games leading up to the All-star game are critical for who we will be this year. Will we be gamers or quitters?
