So, long story, C's started an open door policy to all former players to come to practices and workouts and lockerrooms. Its a policy meant to continue our tradition of mentorship and show the next guys what it means to be a Celtic and what it takes to be great.
Now, since Perk has been a mouth-piece for Celtics doubt and hate and all the bad takes he's made particularly about breaking up the Jay's. Well he was NOT extended an invite to join former Celtics to the Parade festivities (PP loves the Duck Boats).
Apparently, Scal had some words which basically just said Perk wasn't invited due to his unCeltics-like behavior. Perk don't drink the koolaid.
Now, Perk has gone on a Boston Sports Radio show and called Scal out saying he isn't returning his calls and is a coward. He also said he hasn't been back to Boston since he got traded and has moved on "with that chapter of my life".
My thoughts are Perk has been nothing but a blow hard and a hater. How have you all been coping with Perk in some ways turning on the Celtics? Thoughts? Feelings?

I want to know who the real Perk is. Playing for us, he reminded of the Chief -- a stoic man of a few words. On the court Perk hardly ever smiled and had a scowl constantly on his face.
Since then, when he gets in front of the camera, he's a social butterly.
Maybe that's what his agent told him to donif he wants to make it in this business, maybe this is who Perk is off the court. But this TV Perk rubs me the wrong way. And especially because he's not loyal to BOS (unlike PP, KG, and more recently, GWill and Smaht).

I can't stand those shows, so I don't watch them. I don't watch pre-game, I don't watch half-time, and I don't watch post-game. The worst are the in-game interviews but that's a different category. The talking heads are IMO useless. Those shows only exist to keep us tuned in longer. I'd rather hang out here.

Solid points Derren. I feel conflicted because he was a big part of our success for 17 and he was likable. Then you're right this analyst personality appeared and he is just reaching for hot takes. It rubs me the wrong way and I think he is damaging his image within Celtics nation after all the media pressure already and the derisive articles and podcasts and outlets dumping toxic news really trying to ruin players and teams for sound bites. I don't care who you are of course you want to be realistic but if you don't drink the Kool-Aid you don't really belong with the Celtics.

I don't expect Perk to be loyal to the Celtics because they weren't loyal to him. I also don't mind if he said they were soft because they were. However if Perk is going to be a guy who says what he thinks he needs to understand Scal can also say what he thinks and doesn't owe him anything. Take what you dish out Perk. Goes both ways.

Agreed. I think Perk wants everyone to understand he is in the media now and is paid to go on TV and say a bunch of attention-getting things. This is why they hire ex-players. Still, it's hard to separate Perks comments and balance him being a former Celtic that had been part of a title.
At the same time, you are totally right, if he is going to do that line of work he has to expect people especially former teammates, fans, and NBA organizations, like the Celtics, in general, are going to also feel a way about his schtick. Let's face it Perk is saying nasty things as part of his job. He took a dirty job. He has to expect people are also listening to whatever he says and he's gonna get backlash for it.
Especially a franchise like the Celtics.
He was mad at Scal for not calling him first to talk about it before going directly to the media about Perk being left out of Celtics access. But what Perk doesn't realize is HE'S IN the media and goes to the media with his takes on a nightly basis. Scal has no obligation to keep it private when clearly Perk uses the Media to spout dim takes.
I've no issue with Perk say what you want, but if you ain't loyal and don't owe us anything we don't owe him anything either including how we feel about him in the media.
You can't have an open forum to say inflammatory things and everyone else has to be quiet or address you in private.

Some guys are butt kissers that get invited onto the duck boats and some guys aren't." But calling him a coward is kinda lazy. Instead Perk makes it look like he's a tough guy.....whose feelings get hurt. Which is it? Pick one.

Perk was my favorite Celtics from the time he was drafted until he was traded and I still loved Perk the player when he was on the Thunder. He was all business on the court and had that Perk scowl when he played. He did all the dirty work without worrying about getting stats. I still believe that if he didn't get hurt in 2010 we would have won Banner 18 back then.
He always did say what he thought. In one huddle as a 1st year player he called out Paul Pierce for not giving effort out on the court. He cried (as did KG) when he was traded from the Celtics. He loved being a Celtic. But they tossed him aside after he worked so hard to come back from the ACL tear. As Eja said, he doesn't owe blind loyalty to the Celtics after they showed no loyalty to him.
When Perk was traded, the Celtics were 29-5 and they were still a great team. After he was traded the team went down hill from there and never got back on top. It was one of Danny's worst decisions.
Now, as an analyst he still says what he thinks and a lot of what he thinks ends up being hot takes. He basically called Joe Mazzulla a bird brain. He said the Jays couldn't play together. He's had similar hot takes about other teams. I don't like a lot of what he says and much of it ends up being wrong. But, he says what thinks.
I agree that he shouldn't have been mad at Scal for saying what he did. But from what I understand, Perk is still welcome around the team. He is often on NBCSB and has been around the team. So it would seem Perk wanted to find out why Scal said what he said but Scal didn't return his calls. But again, Scal said he doesn't return calls often because he's often on the run and doesn't have time what with being on the radio and TV and involved with the Big 3. So it's kind of a lot of hoopla about nothing.
I listen to Scal on NBA radio a lot and also check out a lot of what Perk says. It's kind of hot takes from both sides and then the media runs with it to get more hot takes and it snowballs. That's my take on it anyway.
