Waaaiitt a second. To clarify......I think our top 8 are set next year and that would be enough if two things happened. 1. Nobody gets hurt 2. Nobody regresses. Unfortunately I expect Al to take a small step backwards due to age and out health was so good I expect the law of averages to start to be a problem. I also think fatigue could start to matter.
So to help that means either bringing in more talent and depth or developing some talent and depth.
I think it will be quite difficult to bring in more talent. They may get one guy maybe. A ring chaser would be excellent. But I think it's just as likely we lose talent because Kornet's contract is up.
I am optimistic that Jordan Walsh could start helping after the year he had to develop. Maybe even JD Davidson, although I'm not high on him at all.
That leaves us with the draft. I think we could possibly get some depth there. But I think that depth may need a year to develop, similar to Jordan Walsh. Another guy that needed a year or two was Hauser. Romeo Langford never got there.
I also agree (very good point) Brad could easily try to trade down a few spots.

I don't think money will be a factor at all in keeping whatever players Brad wants to keep. Within reason of course. If someone offers Kornet $15 million per year we won't match that, but that isn't going to happen. But $5 million? Up from $2.8 or so? I don't think that's out of the question.
I heard some local yokels talking on the radio that D White would be offered a team-friendly extension. I disagree. Pay him what he's worth. He's a huge part of this team. Why mess with this chemistry?
The Celtics made something like $270 million over the last three years. I don't think Wyc and Pags are in this for the money, although their $400 million investment 20 years ago is now worth $4 billion. I just don't think they are going cheap out on keeping this group together.

From what I understand, the only way other than the draft for us to add a player is through the vet minimum. No mid-level or trade exceptions. Should be a much quieter summer this year.

A funny unrestricted free agent to sign at the vet min would be Danillo Galinari. He signed a rest of year deal with the Bucks in late February. I wonder if they have his Bird rights or want him back.

Good article link....click hereI do like these suggestions. The team will shoot for an Eddie House type player, but quite possibly end up with a Sam Casssell. We don't need a lot. We just need a little.

And it's pretty clear that the higher ups will pay players (Jaylen with the biggest contract in history, and Tatum's bigger contract extension soon to come). You're right, Hauser and Kornet will not command a whole lot on the open market. And hopefully they've learned that getting more money from another team doesn't lead to a happier situation.

Remember how ugly an injured Porzingis looked in the first half of Game 5? That'll be Gallo even when healthy.

Al Horford should be a good person to talk to about that. He left for more money in Philly and was miserable and very happy to finally come back to Boston a couple years later. And Grant Williams thought Dallas would be a better place but found out that not all teams are created equal.

Yes, however the West will have a new representative.

I hope (and expect) to be back in the Finals next season, and I hope we face the Nuggets. To me they are the real test because they play a team game like us, and they have an unstoppable force in Jokic. Beating them next year will feel like a greater accomplishment than beating the Mavs this year.

Indeed. I too have mentioned that I think the Nugz would have shown really different matchups for us and posed a bigger threat had they made it. The Mavs are a championship caliber team yet not tested and not their time. Too soon for Luka and he learned a lesson that it is gonna take more than the enormous amount of individual talent he has to make it to the summit.

And now that we've got the chip, and we know what it takes mentally and physically to win a championship, I think we're better equipped to take on DEN (even though we may have beat them this year anyway).
