Double R, you & I must were thinking along the same wavelengths. I didn't want to put this in your thread being that its a voting thread & just clutter up your thread. The expectations for this team this year is a title but is that the reality w/the issues we know this team has? I personally am not going into the playoffs as confident as I've been w/past Cs teams that were title contenders. Of course I want them to win but too many times the issues of this team have a way of happening at the worst moments. I was thinking about what it would take for us to win the title this year & came up w/at least a few things that have to happen for us to win the title based on our shortcomings the past couple/few years. It's not a complete list & if anyone has anything to add please do. So here we go in no particular order:
1. The Jays have to be big. There's going to be a game or two where we're going to need one or both of these guys to put the team on their backs & bring home a win/title. They just won't be denied & will us to victory. Hopefully it won't be in the 1st couple of rounds (more on that in a min, but if we need that in the 1st 2 rounds its not a good sign). They also need to be stoppers. When teams go on a run they need to be ready & able to step up kill any mo from the other team and right the ship. They need to take good shots and realize if their shots aren't falling to get offense generated by getting to the bucket, drawing fouls, finishing strong and/or making foul shots. Basically they have to play like the stars of the team that everyone believes they are.
2. They need to win the 1st 2rds at worst a combined 8-4 but probably in reality it needs to be 8-3. How we do in the 1st 2rds will give us an idea of how our title hopes will go. There's no reason for this team to struggle in the 1st 2rds. They should basically sweep the 1st rd. Its not a good sign for our title hopes if the Jays (or anyone else for that matter) have to be heroes in the 1st 2rds just to get us through. If I'm not mistaken, the Cs haven't swept a series since the yr they swept BKN (the team that had KD, Kyrie, Harden) & only one 4-2 series since then. We need to dominate the 1st two rounds. Period.
3. The bench needs to be consistent support maybe even carry the starters in moments during the playoffs. Some combination of: PP, Hauser, Kornet, Svi, Tillman, & Brissett, have to play their roles to the fullest as they have most of the yr. They've shown for the most part that they're dependable to not give up big leads that the starters hand to them. There may be a game where we need them, hopefully not in the 1st 2 rds, to help the starters pull out a game. Either way they need to be ready to play & contribute when called upon.
4. Defend home court. This ties in w/[HASH]2 a little but if we can't defend our home court our season will end similar to the way its ended the past couple/few seasons.
5. Coach has to be able to read the game & his players. We can't let teams just go on runs, we've to have plays ready to go out of time outs, we have to know that if a player is cooking how to get the ball out of his hands & let someone else beat us. These among other things coach has to be wise to & guide the team through some of the turbulent times that the playoffs bring...
As I said this isn't an exhaustive list & somethings can offset others. [HASH]3 can help offset [HASH]1 but it shouldn't be the game plan. IMHO, in order for us to raise a banner this year all of these factors have to be a part of any chance for a title...
