Usually they'd just tell their agent to not schedule with that team. It seems like that kind of thing happened a lot more back in the day. I remember Steve Francis refused to go to Vancouver. I think the story goes that both Grant Hill and Jason Kidd told Milwaukee that they didn't want to play for them when Milwaukee had the [HASH]1 pick in the 1994 draft.

TMac never made it past the first round of the playoffs and that was with Yao and also Vince Carter in Toronto. I can only imagine Rick Pitino (aka the worst Celtics coach ever....ok I suppose maybe not as bad as ML Carr) and a depressed teenage TMac with Toine and Billups. I guess I'll take TMac over Ron Mercer but still. Then I have to wonder if they still would have drafted Pierce the next year. I could imagine Pitino doing something stupid and trying to get Tractor Traylor.

If Pitino is to be believed, if they Boston would've picked ahead of Dallas they would've picked Dirk. They were fairly certain they were going to get him at [HASH]10. They ended up picking Pierce in a panic.

I would like to clarify Rick Pitino was a bad coach, however Rick Pitino was also a legendary bad GM. Pitino got tarred, and feathered out of BOS, and that was before the Internet was the thing.

At least Rick Pitino will not be walking back through that door.

At least Rick Pitino will not be walking back through that door. Haha. Rick Pitino would have had his own meme after that quote, which I believe was right before he quit.

At least Rick Pitino will not be walking back through that door. I would be a phony if I said I didn't thoroughly enjoy the time 98.5 Sportshub (I think) had Pitino on in the morning and just said "You ruined the Celtics. You suck." and hung up on him. Perhaps it was staged or they paid him, but it seemed pretty authentic at the time.

At least Rick Pitino will not be walking back through that door. The problem with Pitino wasn't that he was bad or even that he got paid the most of any coach to be so bad or even that he also made horrible GM decisions. The problem at the time was that he acted like he was smarter than everybody else, then when things didn't go according to plan he pointed fingers and blamed others like a little sissy. Let's be frank. Boston chewed up Pitino and spit him out because he was a phony. Then later on it turned out he was a scum bag too.

Pitino clearly had a leadership issue, however I think he would have fared better if not given both the coach, and GM (basketball ops) titles. Segregation of duties.

And it all started so well. If I recall correctly we played Jordan's Bulls in the first regular season game and smoked them. Then the league figured out his press and it went downhill fast.

I completely forgot about the full court press until celtics.com showed as a clip today. The full court press did not age well, because once a team beat the press, it was a 4 on 3.

Pretty sure that game was halloween night of 1997. I was so geeked to see it i went to a buddy's house to watch it because he had a Primestar dish. I thought for sure that team was going places.

Hiring Pitino was a disaster. Bringing him in was the reason Larry Bird left the Celtics for the Pacers. Pitino also demanded to be president as well as coach and that moved Red out of the job as president and forced one of the greatest basketball minds in the league into a minor background role. In one of his books, Red wrote about how hurt he was over that decision. For those two things (among others) I will forever deeply dislike Pitino. He really is not a good person.
