Wow. It looked like a trade for KP had fallen apart late last night, but I woke up to see we had traded Smart for KP. Gallinari and Muscala are also being traded away for salary match purposes, we move up from [HASH]35 to [HASH]25 in this year's draft, and we pick up a protected 2024 first round pick from GS as well.
A lot of how we view this trade 5 years from now will depend on KP's health, always a concern. If he can stay healthy I think this trade makes us better.
Mostly right now I'm a little in shock. I didn't think Brad would ever trade Marcus. Smart drove me crazy like no player since Antoine, and I won't miss that. I know a lot of you will miss him more than I will.
Now, after all these years of hearing "he's the heart and soul of the Celtics" we'll find out who steps up into a leadership role.
Brad certainly isn't shy about making moves. I suspect he isn't done this summer.

I knew (1) of White, Brogdon, or Smart would be traded, however BOS as usual made a trade the media did not see coming. A calculated risk, similar to what Danny made years ago trading Perkins.

Wyc was interviewed recently. Interesting comments.

I've been so bummed since they traded Marcus Smart. He was the heart of this team and hopefully someone else will step up and provide the leadership and heart and grit they will be missing with him gone.

I think Brad's GM legacy will be defined by the trade. Good or bad. I thought Smart lost a step defensively, however gained a step offensively.
