As I hear them talking about it on FSNE and I read the article on Boston Herald online, the realization is kicking in that Ricky Davis has been traded, and although he had some flaws, I think that he rejuvenated his career here in Boston and was having one of his best seasons. He was able to clean up his so-called "bad image" while he was here and did everything that the Celtics asked of him to do. He was GREAT in the community and really had his heart here I think. I am sad to see him go, and I want to give him his due praise. Personally, Wally has some shoes to fill if this deal indeed gets finalized. Good luck Ricky D!!!

Yep, good luck brother. In many ways, I am more attached to Ricky than I am to Pierce. Ricky's energy and fire was always a constant. You knew that in every game, he was going out there to prove himself to everyone. He truly turned his attitude around, and I changed my view on Ricky as well.

RD did all right here, but I think Szerbiak is an improvement. Not sure how he will fit in, or if the Celtics will keep passing expensive veterans around while waiting for Gerald Green, Perk and Jeff to mature.

Esco, good thread. RD was a true professional, which included on and off the court. No matter what his role, 6th man or starter, he did his job well. I commend him for his efforts, and I am sad to see him go.

I am very sad to see Ricky go. I haven't had a favorite Celtic since Larry retired. I very quickly grew to love Ricky. I love his energy and the fact that he looks like he is having fun out there. Ricky was a team player while here and he did everything that was asked of him and did it well. He embraced the Celtics and the community and I am very sad to see him go. But this is a business and if it makes my beloved Celtics better, then it is a good thing. I am going to miss him very much!!!

“I love Boston,” he said last night in a statement released through the team. “It’s a great place. Thank you to the Celtics organization and the fans for accepting me while I was here. I’m going to miss my teammates. This is the best group of teammates I have every played with. This has been a great step in my career, and I thank everyone.”
The Celtics’ Jeff Twiss noted that this wasn’t one of those so-called “player” statements that in reality is manufactured by the media relations staff. The words did indeed come from Davis who, in perhaps the most unexpected bonus of all, became a darling of the marketing department.

I just get the feeling that Ainge really blew it again...as well as he drafts, he is equally as awful in his trades and signings. Very simply put, I have watched Wally play a lot for the wolves and he is nothing more than a decent role player. In Minny, the main threat was Garnett and EVERYONE focused on him defensively, leaving Wally open. Here, as good as Pierce is, he is no Garnett. Spot up shooters are a dime a dozen, especially when they come in damaged form. I would honestly have rather had Kyle Korver than Wally and his $36 million. We keep talking about the kids being the faces of this franchise, then why do we keep giving ALL of the money under our salary cap to aging injury prone players (ie Raef)...it just doesn't make any sense...any deal made should have been to make room in the salary cap...

I tend to agree with Jambr. I was never impressed with Wally, and he's basically a role player who makes a ton of money. He is a good shooter, and he's built strong enough to be a mismatch against smaller defenders, but overall, I never had the impression that he was Ricky's equal. But in many anyalyst's eyes, Wally is ranked higher. Hopefully Ainge proves to correct with this move. I trust Ainge and I don't want it to end now.

I think the trade was good over-all. I sure hate to see Ricky leave. He has done a lot of growing up the last couple years.
But we cut loose of Blunt and Bank! ! ! Good IMO.
Reed could be back next season, if DA wants him. Depends on how Gomes comes around.
Ricky will be closer to his parents, in Iowa, now. All the best to him in Minnesota.

I think Davis' statement summed up why I think he was outstanding player in this organization. And again, I am sad to hear him go.
If the trade was made, because of the intentions to free up time for Perks/AJ, I applaud the deal. However, it concerns me now the organization realizes that it can't develop its young players if they do not play.

How many rocks does it take to flip on a light switch?

Just finished watching the end of the Wolves/Rockets game. Ricky was player of the game!! I am really glad that he did so well in his first game. He looked like he was fitting in really well. He played 35 minutes and went 10 for 18 for 26 points with 6 rebounds, 3 assists, 1 steal and only 1 turnover. One of those rebounds came with the game on the line after a Rocket miss with just seconds left and he sank 2 clutch free throws to ice the game.
I am really happy to see him doing so well and looking happy there. But then Ricky always looks happy when he is playing. They already have a 12 there so Ricky's new number is 31.
Blount on the other hand fouled out in 24 minutes with 4 points and 4 rebounds and 1 turnover.

He may be a role player, but Wally can give this team a better compliment to Pierce. His career numbers are .501 FG% .404 3PT% and .855 FT%, so this year's numbers are no fluke. And I am hoping we will have better ball movement, as he does not dribble as much as Ricky or try to go 1 on 1 as often. Plus, he played 81 games last year and played in every game so far this year, so much like our Delonte he seems to have recovered from his past injuries and is playing as well as ever. At first I did not like his contract, but we wouldn't have had meaningful cap space until Raef's contract is off the books, and Wally's contract expires at the same time Raef's does, so this trade doesn't really make our cap much worse. He makes less than Davis and Blount combined and his contract is shorter than Blount's.
I will miss Ricky Davis, though, and am very glad he had a strong outing for Minnesota. He turned out to be a class act for us, and I will always root for him to do well. He said today that he has wanted to play in Minnesota, and even signed with him a few years ago, but Cleveland matched the deal. So I'm glad that if we were to trade him we sent him to a place he wanted to play for.
