NBA TV is reporting it.
Ricky/Blount/Banks/Reed and 2 second round picks
FOR
Wally/Kandi/Dwayne Jones and a conditional first round pick
<sigh> Wally comes in with a Raef like contract and is averaging the same stats as Ricky for twice as much money. I'm going to go and pout now!!!!

Wow! I actually like this trade. We get rid of Blount! Plus I think Wally will fit in well here until Green is ready.

I am watching it on FSNE right now. I don't believe it. I KNEW something was brewing. Danny never reveals that much in an interview. It seemed as if the deal had already been done.
ESPN has not reported it yet.

Hmmm...let this trade sink in a bit before I give my overall judgment. Right off the bat, I'm a bit sad that we lost Ricky Davis. I really came to like the guy because of his energy and his spunk. I seriously hope we don't lose our swagger because of Ricky no longer being here.
I actually think Wally could work here. Now, I'd like to state that he is not a guy I was hoping for. IMO, he's nothing special. He doesn't have a lot of foot speed, nor is he much of an athlete. But he is a shooter and we do need shooters. This will allow Doc to play Raef less because instead of having to rely on Raef to give us additional three point shooting, he can now use Wally and play Perk or Al in place of Raef. This is the ideal situation. Often times, Doc would play Raef just because he could spread the defense.
As CF said, we get rid of Blount and that is the best thing. I knew that at some point, Justin Reed was going to be a goner. He's an athlete and he plays with energy. But from what I saw, he wasn't high on basketball smarts. I just didn't say much about him because I didn't want to hurt C17's feelings ;D
Banks is finally gone--and its the right move. He's not going to turn into a floor general and we got a much better PG in Orien Greene.
We get rid of 2 second rouners, which is nothing to shrug off, because Ainge has done wonders with late picks. But we get a conditional 1st rounder, which might turn out to be a blessing in disguise because I don't expect Minnesota to get any better in the next couple of years (actually, I envision them going down hll at any point).

We are ecstatic to acquire a player of Wally Szczerbiak’s quality to complement Paul Pierce and our young talent base," said Celtics Executive Director of Basketball Operations, Danny Ainge. “In Wally we are receiving an All-Star player who is playoff tested and who has been a winner at all levels. We wish Ricky, Mark, Marcus, and Justin continued success in Minnesota.”
Honestly, to me I really do not think that swapping Ricky for Wally will improve our record much and make us a better team. Wally is the better shooter. That is it. To me its a wash. Would have rather kept the player with the better contract. Guess Danny traded away a good contract (Ricky) to get rid of a bad one (Blunt).
Something tells me that if Danny had his way, he would have just traded Blunt for Kandi and held onto Ricky.

So I guess this is all the trades we can expect for a while now. No other loose pieces to move. Now its all about keeping what we have, developing our young talent, acquire key free agents, and draft a few more solid pieces.
I guess maybe Raef is the next logical piece to see if we can move. He's not in the long term plans anyways, and Doc only uses him for his three point shooting. But with Scala getting more playing time (he's more mobile and also can hit the three's) and with Wally being a three point option, Raef will see more time on the bench. His huge contract will make it tough to move, but it could happen.

There weren't any winners in tonight's trade. To me, McHale improved the Center spot, Strengthened PG, got a replacement for Spree, and unloaded a bad contract on Boston (expensive 20 point scorer).
Boston - Got rid of Blount, RD, Reed, and Banks...... to them they got basically Szerbiak and a possibility at C in Dwayne Jones who is a shotblocker, rebounder, but not an offensive player. He sounds like the 21st century version of Greg Kite. I have no idea what Boston's plans are for Olakandi. He hasn't panned out anywhere.

Yeah, funny how I haven't even mentioned Olowokandi yet. Its like he's an afterthought. Well, I would be surprised if he was re-signed after this season anyways.
I think Olowokandi will see some minutes on the floor, but I just don't know how much.

I dunno what to think of the trade. Wally is a better shooter and defender, but his contract is also much higher. Getting rid of Blount is huge. The first rounder was a nice pick-up as well.
I wouldve prefered a straight up blunt for candi trade, but i assume that Minny wasnt done for that. The one thing that Im happy about is that we didnt end up with Hudson. He is the suck.

A surprising trade none-the-less. Wally/Kandi for Davis/Blount w/ some fillers on each side. Seemed like both clubs won, and was able to dump some garbage on the other club.

LMAO@ Ainge! LMAO@Boston Craptics! Wally? LMAo! Add another no D playing white stiff to this team. Whatever happened to his 'vision'. Coming to think about it, it is all bogus. The Craptics are the laughing stock of the league.

Many may think that Wally is an upgrade as a shooter, but I think that people aren't giving Ricky enough credit. His shooting was huge this season. Ricky can create his shots better, and he's better coming off the pick. But with his feet set, Wally is more automatic. But its a toss up for me trying to figure out who's the better fit for our system.

Well, I hate to see Ricky go, because not only is he a good player, he also seemed to really love being a Celtic and he had totally embraced the city of Boston. But then again, so did Antoine. Scoring wise, the trade is a wash. However, I honestly believe that Szcerbiak is a better compliment to Pierce than Ricky. Ricky and Paul, in my opinion are redundant. They do the same thing, and sometimes got in each other's way. Wally is always going to have a defender to stuck to him on the perimeter, which will open up more lanes for Pierce, West, and company.
Now, the Celtics starting lineup will have 3 very good shooting perimeter players on the floor. Delonte, Pierce, and Wally all attract attention, which may also open more space for Jefferson inside. This also gives Boston a true small forward. Ricky and Paul are 2 guards masquerading as small forwards. As much as I like Ricky, how many times has he passed up open 15 footers this season only to drive to the hoop right at 2 or more defenders. Wally uses screens better, which not only creates for himself, but may also benefit guys like Jefferson and Perk as they roll off the screen and too the basket. Or even Raef as he pops out and gets open 3's.
The only negative about this trade is Wally's 9 million as compared to Ricky's 6. However, getting rid of the long term committment to Blount, as well as letting Khandi man go at the end of the season makes this deal work financially. I don't know anything about the kid they got, but first round picks are always handy.
Trading Reed away is also beneficial, but indirectly. Not only will his departure help clear the log jam on the wing, it will more clearly define Ryan Gomes' role with the club. I believe that Gomes is a better player than Reed, and his presence on the glass is sorely needed right now. In my opinion, Banks would've been a gonner sooner if not for his injure.
