I actually think one of the sneakiest dark horsiest guys to make the team from this group is Justin Jackson. One of the quotes of the night is "Tons of these guys think they're auditioning to be the CEO. They're actually auditioning to be the janitor." I think Justin Jackson gets that and may do a really really good NBA janitor interview. He's kinda a guy that maybe they can just have and not really have to worry about because he is and wants to be and will be Brian Scalabrine. Not everyone wants to be that guy or mentally/emotionally can be. They're probably aiming for a guy that can be a great practice player and move up from 15th man to 9th man if there are several injuries and not cost them a game.
I don't feel like Begarin and JD can do that. Kabengele can. Maybe Trevion can. I don't know if Matt Ryan and Sam Hauser can. I suspect they can.

I have to say I'm not seeing the elite athleticism of JD Davidson at all. I'm actually pretty disappointed by it. I see it but not applied to basketball. To me the best "athlete" on the team seems to be Begarin. Like if these guys had to win a decathalon or an obstacle course or the hunger games or or Pros vs Joes I'm going with Begarin followed by Kabengele. Next might be JD but maybe not. Maybe Trevion or Thomas. JD is athletic but it's like the time my coworker got poison ivy and had to take steroids and was bouncing off the wall. Or if Speedy Gonzalez was forced to chuck a gallon of a coffee/Red Bull mixture. Energy isn't athleticism. I need more smoothness than that. Interestingly they had no problem whatsoever with the Warriors tonight, but I'm just not impressed or overly hopeful. Hauser and Matt were both hurt and I don't really think these guys can help us, other than maybe practice. I thought Kabengele did the most Celticsish stuff tonight. Followed by Thomas and Justin Jackson. Juhann and Davison are projects. But I think Ben Sullivan is doing an excellent job by making them play big roles in crucial moments, and not hiding them. He could have taken the ball out of their hands, but chose to have them direct the offense. This is going to help their development and confidence (and it's already grown since game 1 of the summer league). Nobody on this summer league has a shot to crack our top 9. Hauser and Matt Ryan are vying for a shot to get into the top 12. Kabengele has an outside shot, but that means Brad couldn't strike a trade to bring in a quality big.

But it always comes down to whether or not he can hit his shots. He looked good knocking them down tonight. Let's see if can keep it up.

I did not realize Kornet is going to be 27 in 3 days.
I really think Brad needs to aggressively deal with the center spot. I think it basically cost us a championship and it also cost us one against the Lakers

Most likely trade for that big man using one of our TPE's.

I see a lot of speed by JD, and an ability to change speeds, as in slow down and then speed up. I haven't seen much in the way of vertical leaping yet, but at his size, how often is that really going to be useful in the NBA? The biggest area where there's need for improvement is finishing his drives. He mostly gets to where he wants to go, but either misses a makeable shot or tries to take into a big man and gets rejected. He needs a ton of repetitions to know when he can take it all the way, and when he needs to pull up for a 10 foot jumper or floater, and to soften his layups when he does shoot. I think he has elite court vision and was mostly a calming influence at the end when GS was making a run. Nine assists is pretty darn good. Very raw but tons of potential. Exactly what we were told to expect.

I have really liked what I've seen from Kabengele. Scoring, rebounding, 4 assists, a steal, 2 blocks and one made 3. What do you guys need to see from him to make you believe he could be a deep backup big man for us?

To me the guy who looked most comfortable out there, most poised and most effective, was Brodric Thomas. He just looked like an NBA wing to me. 6'5" with a 6'11" wingspan. He's had a tough road to get this far, but I see potential for him to be a depth wing for us.
Begarin has loads of athleticism but is out of control too often. He needs more time but you can see the potential.

I can see him messing up in the short minutes he's in an NBA game just becaise the game is too quick for him.

ok, but what specifically does he do or not do that makes you think his bball IQ is lacking?

ok, but what specifically does he do or not do that makes you think his bball IQ is lacking? Plays happen around him that he reacts late to. I've seen a bunch of times that he either rotated late and wasn't able to defend at the basket, or if he just anticipated and got himself ready he could have gotten rebounds. A lot is just observing the small stuff that he doesn't do well. Could he be coached up? Maybe. Like the mechanical stuff like positioning and footwork. But quickly processing and reacting correctly on the fly, I just don't see it at this time.
