And let's all remember, it's not who starts, it's who finishes. Smart has been a little obnoxious with his tweets about how the team made the Finals in his first year as starting PG and it never made it with IT, Kyrie or Kemba - as if that was the only change. I'm sure it had nothing to do with the growth of JB, JT and Rob, the arrival of Ime, and big playoff performances from Grant, White and Al. Rubbed me the wrong way. Guards: Smart, Brogdon, White, Pritch, Davison Wings: Brown, Tatum, Hauser PFs: Al, Grant, Gallinari Centers: Rob, Kornet Still a couple of spots left to fill. Probably another big man and another wing So who you got finishing games? I guess it depends on scenarios: a) two minutes remaining in the 4th. We're up 5. b) two minutes remaining in the 4th and we are down 8 (need points) c) final possession, our ball, :10 on the clock, we're down by 3.

I'll take a stab at c) down 3 with :10 left.
Give me Al, JT, JB, Gallinari and Brogdon. That's right now. Pritch and Hauser are both snipers, so I could see them in there. Not Rob, not White and not Smart.
Oops, I forgot about Grant. Depending on the game he's having he could be in there instead of Al or Gallinari.

Wonder who initially gets the inbound pass -- Tatum? Brogdon? If Tatum gets it, I'm seeing iso at the top. If it's Brogon, I see multiple screens to free him, and if he drives and the defense collapses, he'll have sharp shooters all around him.

a) two minutes remaining in the 4th. We're up 5.
Now I want Smart in there, but for his D. I don't want him initiating the offense.
Brogdon, Smart, JB, JT, Rob

$2 mil is just over twice the NBA minimum, so clearly the Celtics see more than a deep bench guy in Hauser. I'd say good deal for both sides.

I'm wondering if Hauser is being groomed to be Tatum's backup? This a quote from another board (a quote from Udoka by Adam Himmelsbach of Bostonglobe.com) “First and foremost, the shooting stands out,” Celtics coach Ime Udoka said in April. “Elite shooter…But he’s a very cerebral player across the board. He’s fit in well in games that he’s played early in the season when guys were injured. He plugged right in and he didn’t really miss a beat as far as, defensively, and some of the things we were looking for. So, always in the right spot, great team defender and knows how to use himself, his angles and a cerebral guy, not just offensively but defensively as well.” Look at that, Hauser is not a defensive liability.

I'm not actually super excited about these pickups. I am, but only from a what-we-paid point of view. Brogdan hasn't played more than 65 games since his rookie year and last year he only played 36, and when you look at his shooting percentages, they are going down.
Danillo is nice but he's a backup from a non playoff team.
If we think we can just add a backup and a guy that's always hurt and get over the hump I have to totally disagree......unnnllleeeessss....the entire team is totally healthy for the playoffs.
I think in addition to this we need to see improvement from a lot of guys and at least one more significant addition. Or something unforeseen has to happen and we have to take advantage of it. Like JD Davidson is immediately way better than Pritchard, thereby allowing us to trade him for more help. Or Hauser is suddenly way better than Danillo, and/or Grant.

Think about it this way -- in the Finals, how would we have done if Ime had Brogdon and Gallinari to bring in off the bench (and also If Tatum had fresher legs)? I'd say we'd have sone significantly better. Your concern is legit -- injuries and players missing time is a concern for almost every team. Ime has got to figure out how to keep his players healthy the best he knows how.

Brogdon's shooting decline was most likely linked to his injury. Fix one, fix both I think. The guy is a very good shooter when healthy.

I def think the injury bug is worrisome, but i agree with jmost that if you look at brogdon's %s from next year seem like an injury-fueled aberration.

It's hard for me to think of players that were injured for a long time and then got healthy and reliable. There are a few. Grant Hill. Joel Embiid. Tim Duncan had a bounce back after two bad years. Zydrunas Ilgauskas.

From what I can see, Brogdon only missed playoff games one year because of injury. He's no iron man, but he's not a fragile flower either.
