My brother called me last night and posited the theory that the players on the Celtics don't just like and respect Udoka. They fear him.
"At some point he was probably yelling at Tatum and Tatum waived him off and just totally disobeyed him, and the next day at practice Udoka got in his face and was like 'you do that again and I'll turn you into a pretzel boy. Take a seat.' and they love him for it. And it's the one thing Stevens would never ever do, but even if he would he couldn't. Udoka is an alpha dog and it's just different and they love the fact they fear him."
This got us talking and thinking. What NBA coaches would you fear?
We think we fear Popovich.
Spoelstra we place in the "I don't completely fear him but I wouldn't mess with him" category.
Ty Lue is "We sorta respect him but we think he may have just gotten lucky" category.
We have no idea how we feel about Kerr.
Steve Nash we don't fear, don't like, and don't respect.
The Bucks guy we like him, want him to do well, respect him, but don't fear him.
Then we realized we aren't super familiar with the coaches in the league.
Hmmmmm......Doc. Don't fear, kinda respect, kinda like.

Fine line between fear, and respect.
I think Larry Bird once said coaches need to move on after 5-6 years, because eventually players tune them out. Also, I think it was clear BOS tuned Stevens out; 2020-2021 was such a disaster it carried over till half of 2021-2022 was over.

I've been known to disappear from here for long stretches, but you had us worried. Yeah, Udoka is an intense person. I forget which celebrity it was, but he wanted to go say hi and introduce himself to Ime, but he was afraid to because Ime looked intense. I'm hoping this is going to be a good marriage between the players and Ime.

I have been following the Celtics. I thought about opening an account on realgm, or sbnation, however the fans there are not civil, like the fans here.

I forgot about realgm. They've been around for ages? Remember celtic-nation.com? They were huge 20 years ago, but they've been done for many a year.

The realgm sub board, Celtics, is pretty friendly. However, the main board is definitely not. A lot of hot takes, or bashing.

We'll never be a big site like the others, and I wouldn't want to be either. We're small, but we are family.

Going back to the OP, if you compare Pop and Ime, though Pop would get riled up, him getting mad at you is like a dad (non-abusive type) getting mad at his kid -- nothing but stern verbal confrontation (and maybe a controlled disciplinary spank). But when Ime gets mad, he's like a big older brother, who, when you were growing up, you feared would gut punch you.
Don't mess around with Ime.
