I agree with Scal -- we stole a win tonight. We escaped a loss.
What do we need to improve upon in order to win Game 2?

finish at the rim. boston missed a lot of bunnies in this game. they wouldn't have needed that dramatic finish if they would've made more of their bunnies.
resilience - accept the fact that occasionally durant and kyrie are just gonna go bananas and make absurd shots. the C's need to make sure they stick with the defensive gameplan when that happens.
other than that, i can't see much they can improve on. The Playoff Nets are an absolute nightmare. But Boston proved it can handle them.

fresh, I agree about us missing bunnies, and I'll add that BKN got at least two very lucky bounces, one on a 3. That's probably a 10 point swing right there.
I'm not sure I agree about sticking to the defensive game plan though. When Kyrie is in the zone as he was in Game 1, maybe we just have to make him pass it, as we did on that final possession. As good as Smart is, he can't stay with Kyrie by himself. I don't think I'd change what we do until he proves he's in that zone though.
In looking at the stats, the only thing I can see is that the Nets shot 11-24 from 3, and that's too good. We need to defend that better.

Take better care of the ball. Less sloppy. Less fouling

Hello all. DMatts I was going to start a thread along the same lines. No surprise you beat me to it:D I agree w/what's been said already about things to improve upon. I kinda broke it up into two categories. Things that will loose us the series and things that will win us the series. Not finishing at the rim, turnovers, and not adjusting to the hot hand (taking the ball out the hot hand & making someone else make a shot) will help us go home in rd 1. I'll add: getting a big lead, giving it up and then waiting 'til its almost too late to do something about it. Brown getting off to slow starts and/or not shooting well. The bench production. BKN's bench had a very good gm ours was pretty much all Marcus. Nesmith looked like the gm & moment wasn't too big for him though he didn't get a lot of shots. DWhite has to play better. Now the things that will help us win the series. In no particular order: Production from Al. He was big for us all gm. I'd like him to finish stronger more at the rim (I think he'd a lay up or 2 blocked) but still big for us. Fresh I think you touched on a key point. Not panicking when either KD or Kyrie start heating up. They're going to be HOFs for a reason. That's when you've to make someone else beat you & take the ball out of their hands. JMo you're right in that we need to run these guys off the line but after that force them to take a tough/off balanced shot & look for a board. Having a plan when they double Tatum. They're doing it and are going to continue so be ready & have a plan on how you're going to handle it. One last thing. I also think we need to go at Kyrie & make him play D. Marcus took him to the hole at least a couple times from what I saw. Yeah he can light it up but make him play both ends of the floor. Nesmith can help w/that whenever you can drive & kick it out to him. Well see if they're more in control come Wed but I expect BKN to try to steal that game so we definitely need to be ready to match & exceed their intensity and focus...

Take better care of the ball. Less sloppy. Less fouling Less fouling is a very good point. I chalk it up to being overly hyped for game 1. Hopefully they'll settle down more in game 2. Brooklyn had a lot of silly fouls early on too.

I agree with Scal -- we stole a win tonight. We escaped a loss. What do we need to improve upon in order to win Game 2? Nope we didn't steal a win. We didn't collapse in the 4th like we would've if this was earlier in the season. We kept making good shots and you could see JT was creating open looks for guys with his passing. Even that last play, Smart had matured so much this season that he made the right call to pass it instead of taking the mid-range after both guys jumped by him. I'd argue it was a series of very wise decisions to trust each other as the game progressed and to stay calm when KD and Kyrie did the things we expect them to do. If anything, I'd argue the Nets were lucky they stayed in the game because we had some easy misses like Theis' dunk. Our bench also didn't play as well as they had been playing lately. So flip the narrative and you could say we should've won by a much bigger margin.
