What dramatic polar opposites are these two iconic teams.
We are a team on the rise and close to contending. The Lakers are closing in on being a lottery bound team.
We are young and exciting. They are aging and a mess.
We are playing in harmony and unison. They are self-imploding.
We have players that fit and complement one another. They are a misfit cast.

It's kind of amazing, isn't it? After the first season with Anthony Davis led to a title, it looked like the Lakers were poised for at least a couple more, while we were seemingly stuck in the mud as a middling playoff team. I'm reluctant to completely discount LA's chances if Davis can get and stay healthy, because James is still playing at a very high level, but they're certainly not the juggernaut everyone expected and feared.
I can't even remember the last time the Lakers won a championship when their top two players were both homegrown.
Title 17: James was a FA and Davis arrived because he blackmailed his way out of New Orleans. Titles 15 & 16: Pao Gasol given away by Memphis Titles 12,13,14: Shaq stolen from Orlando Titles 7-11: Kareem whined his way out of MIL Title 6: Wilt arrived for at the end of his career and was no longer the scorer he had been, but did play over 40 MPG and averaged over 19 rebs in 1972
The unarguable fact is that the Lakers have always depended on raiding other teams for stars, and so it's especially sweet to see them fall on their faces.

Kobe was home grown. And to be fair KG and Ray Allen weren't

Kobe, but not Pau. More than any other team, the Lakers build teams by acquiring other teams' established stars.

As of tonight (Mar 27) Celtics are tied for first and Lakers lost a 23 point lead to N.O. and are now only 1 game up on the 11th place Spurs. They could actually miss the playoffs.

I also enjoyed the part tonight where the Nets got beat by the Hornets.
Nets and Lakers could end up in the play in games. Or in the lottery

Lakers are now a full game behind the Spurs. It doesn't look like they're tanking because Davis and James played heavy minutes in their loss to NO. Having them miss the playoffs would be sweet.

Lakers are done -- and I would hate for them to win the lottery and get a top 3 pick!

That would be criminal.

This from theringer.com: the Lakers will head to the draft lottery, where they will promptly hand over their pick to either the Pelicans (if it lands in the top 10) or the Grizzlies (if it falls outside). So that's great news. If you want to revel in just how historically bad this year's Laker team was, read the whole article here: www.theringer.com/nba/2022/4/6/23013316/los-angeles-lakers-lebron-james-play-in

Not only that, but they're firing their coach, AD's conditioning is in question, and Westbrook has been a total disaster.
