Ok. Something I noticed last night against the Warriors. You typically think the warriors will hit a ton of shots and a ton of threes, right? But the only one that got hot was Poole in the 3rd quarter. This is what I think happened and I'm not sure if it's a thing or not.
They're switches are perfect, but more importantly the switch back is perfect. But that's not what I think I saw.
What I think I noticed on tons of those Warriors shots were the Celtics....to a MAN....managed to challenge a TON of shots PERFECTLY where they got their hands in JUST the right spot at JUST the right moment while ALSO staying light on their feet. As a result it placed the shooter in a very strange and awkward momentary indecision spot where it was difficult to decide whether to pass or shoot. Because being on their heels made it feel like they couldn't quite pass it, but being up kinda close made it feel like they should. They managed to get in the in-between space. Fencers actually do something similar. It's called a check out and it's specific to saber fencers but I wouldn't be surprised if the other weapons have their own version.
It's as though the defensive coaches hired a movement coach.
Like back when Peter Jackson was filming Lord of the Rings they actually hired a movement coach to work with Orlando Bloom because they wanted the elf to move differently. They wanted him to move like a human cat. Like he would always land on his feet. Years later they did it again in the Hobbit with the dwarves but they wanted them to move more like a human bowling ball.
The Celtics are moving like black belt karate masters on defense. The combo of footwork, handwork, balance, and eyes is off the charts. And it's happening on offense too. Like some of those passes and alley oops and stuff.
You can tell they want it too. Like there was that one scrum with 4 guys on the floor in the 2nd quarter.
It's going to be very difficult for anyone at the end of the bench to get into the rotation. They'll have to play like a mad man to get any minutes at all. Take for example Theis. He hasn't caught up yet. He's not moving like a Celtic yet. Freedom never did. I'm not sure J Rich ever did. D White is getting there I think, but Marcus blew him away in this game.
This is another thing. When they shoot they're relaxed and when they go to the basket they're hard core. They used to be relaxed going to the basket and a tad overserious about taking lazy threes. Ime fixed that and added a ton of passing and defense. If Brad could have gotten this he would still be coach.
