Maybe this is a topic for the offseason, but I guarantee Brad has already been thinking about who will replace Horford.
Even at 35 years old, Horford has helped anchor our defense. And with just another year on his contract, he's a short timer no matter which way you slice it.
Do we go away from the 2 bigs gameplan in the future? Does Udoka want to keep playing this scheme?
Do we find a player similar with Horford's skill set?

I think this is what the Theis move was. I'm fairly convinced that Al wont be on the team next year. It would be absurd to have nearly 40% of our payroll locked up on just the center position. Next year im guessing our center rotation will be Rob/Theis/Vet minimum big. We may also see the occasional super small ball lineup with grant williams at the 5.

Hmmm.. I can see that. I like Theis as a backup, though.
You think we go away from 2 bigs?

I wouldn't mind keeping Horford on an MLE. He provides rotational depth and solid defense.
Alot of all this hinges on how well Derrick White plays in our system. Could he be the catalyst the same way Chris Paul was for the Suns? Remembering that the Suns had Booker, Ayton, Bridges and that was an excellent trio on paper but they weren't winning until a floor general came along. I'm hoping White does the same thing for us...the missing piece that unlocks a much more fluid offensive game with less lapses or cold spurts.

Is Horford willing to play a PJ Brown role for us, and will he take a significant pay reduction?
If yes, then sign me up 👍
But nonetheless, I'm keeping an eye out for a versatile high IQ big man who contributes offensively and defensively.

Its hard to see anyone giving Horford another max deal. At his age, injury history, and production...you're looking at a deal similar to Iguodala.. 11mil per year. Would you say that is too much or too little?

Would you say that is too much or too little? Too much, if you ask me. That's in the ballpark of what RWill is making. At this stage in his career, you'd have to think championships are the ultimate prize and not grasping every last cent. We were going after Jalen Smith (who was traded to IND). He's a free agent this summer -- wonder if Brad tries to get him again?

To be fair, we got RWill as a steal. What he is making and what someone would pay him is quite different now.
Horford represents the vet market of guys you want on a championship roster and if GSW will pay Iggy 11mil, and the Clippers are paying Zubac 7mil, Mavs are paying Kleber 8.8mil.. then you gotta think that Al brings more value than Kleber or Zubac. He has range although he has abit more age but he brings a solid 20+ minutes a night. That to me is a 10mil a year player at minimum.. and I'd be trying to offer 2 years / 23mil or 3 year/ 30mil.
If we get stay under luxury tax this year, we should be fine as we reset our repeat offender status.

I'm still of the thinking that there's no way we don't trade all this off-season. We'll use that to get another player in that 20-25 mill/year pay scale.

Just to continue your thought, if Beal is the target, then Horford's contract helps to balance out the trade. Question is, which player on our end will be the centerpiece? Smart? Jaylen?

What about Grant Williams. He's starting to creep up there in importance. Short, but super strong and versatile. High IQ, is learning to be more diverse on offense, can switch well on defense.
Just like RWill did, Grant is gearing up to take a leap in his development.

I think it would be smart and a pile of picks. I also wouldn't be surprised if they used that contract to get a near all-star talent like Collins in ATL or the aforementioned Jonathan Isaac.
