''We play them pretty tough, and they're the best team in the league right now," said Pierce. ''I don't know if it's because they don't get up for us or because we match up well. You've got me and Tayshaun [Prince], and Ricky [Davis] and Richard Hamilton. [Kendrick Perkins] is like a young Ben Wallace to me. We don't know if he'll be a great offensive player, but he's taken his strengths and worked to make the most of them. He has long arms. He knows his role getting rebounds. Delonte [West] reminds me of Chauncey [Billups]."
This is what Pierce said in comparing the Pistons to the Celtics. All jokes aside, I actually was thinking about this in comparing individual players a few weeks ago.
Wallace – Perkins can rebound and block shots ala Big Ben. I have been making this comparison of a poor man’s Ben Wallace for a while now, and now Pierce has said it.
Rasheed – Pierce doesn’t mention this comparison, but Big Al is the closest we have. Still has a long way to go though.
Prince – Pierce is better.
Hamilton – Ricky – Hamilton is the better pure shooter, moves without the ball better. Ricky- better rebounder and passer.
Billups – Delonte - now this is interesting. Both were two guards in college who played little point guard. Both can shoot the lights out. Billups has WAY better one on one skills to break down his man off of the dribble, but I still say West can average like 6 !!!GREENIAC!!!/gm with his heady play.
The HUGE difference between both teams is that the Pistons play better D. They are light years ahead of us on defense and that is what separates the two teams. The Pistons can get a stop if they need one. We can’t.
Until then, we will NEVER be like the Pistons. Sorry Paul
(I do like the Pierce comparison of Delonte to Billups though. Let’s hope we don’t trade Delonte like we did with Chauncey.)
