It's how it fits into the team. Like i said I value Smart more than I ever did Kemba Walker. I think Smart is a more capable player and pg. Taht's not really true though because Kemba if he played better could have been good. I think Smart plays above. Kemba kinda sucks. Not a good leader or the tough hard nosed Kemba and leader he was in college. He got paid. High usage rates etc, etc. Overrated. Doesn't do anything other than lose games that way playing mediocre basketball for 35 minutes a game. Hayward is the same way to me. He got paid. Early in his career it was different.
Some players just play all out to get paid though is the thing. Hayward and Kemba were never extremely smart team oriented players. They would play balls to the ball early in their careers and got paid. Smart is caught between and can't do that so he actually has to make his money in other ways. I think Smart is somewhat overrated as a leader myself sometimes because it's more his game he has to play that way.
He's not Kevin Garnett that way who is trying to beat the best and win a championship and even him he had to play that way because he was on the Twolves. Even Garnett is overrated that way. Bill Russell no. BUt Garnett didn't slack. He did at times once he got his ring and injuries started cropping up.
It's rare you see a player actually want to be part of a team. Marcus I stil question because he doesn't always do that. Suddenly he is on the trade block and he's doing what he should be doing. Like i said I'm not opposed to trading Marcus that way. But it has to equal something that can get us to a championship in some way.
I value Smart more than I value Brogdon. But that's a decent comparison. I would put Smart ahead of him. I value him more than HUerter and Reddish although that's a fairly fair deal. I still wouldn't do it. For the reasons I said. We just gave up our chip and are now stuck with Horford and Shroder. I have a vision of what I'd want and Horford, Shroder, HUerter, Reddish to go with Tatum, Brown and Williams is not it.
Some players don't really have a ton of ton of value to the teams they are on either. I'm not saying Smart is the end all be all here if we can get a ring some other way, but he has value to this team in some form regardless of if he needs a kick in the rear end sometimes. Ainge basically said this about smart too. He doesn't always play the same way. He has to play that way all the time.
I would trade Smart, Horford and Shroder for Markkanen right now if it equalled some flexibility elsewhere where we can replace him. If we could get Brogdon and Markkanen that way that's pretty decent return as far as value. I don't necessarily make trades that way though. I'd trade Marcus for more or less if it equalled a championship. I want Marcus to play the right way though. That's first and foremost to me. It's apples and oranges to me as it stands.
Markkanen I really like. He's rated lower but has potential to be a steal imo. So I would trade Marcus for that potentially. HUerter checks those boxes too. We don't have to trade Marcus right now. He's signed for 5 years. The onus is more on Atlanta than us because they aren't going to be able to pay all their guys. They had no choice but to trade Reddish.
