Why does Doc always play guys to matchups? I agree that at times this needs to be done, but he does it so much and this is part of the reason why we lose so much.
Charles Barkley was a perennial All-Star who was one of the greatest power forwards to have ever played the game. If all of his coaches said, you know what I am going to bench him tonight because he is undersized, and the opposing power forward is 6'11" and will just give him fits defensively and offensively so we'll just sit him tonight, his teams would never have won.
Dennis Rodman was one of the best rebounders to ever have played the game. He was skinny, and had the body of a small forward. Did Phil Jackson sit him once in that Chicago Bulls 70 win season because of matchups? Heck no.
The list can go on and on for players who "may not match up well against the opposition" - John Stockton, Ben Wallace, Elton Brand, LARRY BIRD!!!
I am not saying we have players on this team that are of the caliber of these aforementioned players, but my point is that you have to play to your team's strengths, and not let the other team and who is playing dictate the way you play your game.
If that was the case, maybe we could see a starting lineup of:
5-Scalabrini (because the other center on the other team is undersized and quick and can shoot from the outside)
4-Reed (because the power forward on the other team is really a big 3 who can score in the post, and Reed plays good D)
3-Blount (Because the opposing 3 on the other team is a 7 footer who is ultra quick and can run and shoot, and we need someone "athletic" enough to contain him.)
2- West - (Because the other 2 guard on the other team is undersized, and is too quick for Paul, and Paul would probably foul out by the first quarter if he had to guard him.)
1- Ricky Davis - (because the point guard on the other team is 6'7" and he will probably just shoot over our other guards.)
And that would be our lineup...
