I think when trades become necessary is when a team decides they want to go another direction. I don't think that has even been decided yet. They also are useful during the season when you want to make a change or give your team a boost or whatever. It depends on the GM though. S ome GM's love them some don't. I think the main issue is you have to give up something to get something and I'm not sure the Celtics are even in that position to give anything up. They are still trying to develop what they have. Celtics blog wrote a long article that I've basically already said in 2 sentences but you don't ahve to make trades to replenish our youth either. Nesmith, Romeo, Pritchard are worth keeping imo And we can add to that through free agency or just picking at the bottom of the trash barrell and players teams don't want to pay. Players end up there sometimes. The league scouts pretty well where it doesn't happen as much as you might think. But Bol Bol is a sign of that. We got him through a trade. But in free agency we may be able to get someone who a team doesn't want to pay either. Usually someone will if they have any value at all with 32 teams or whatever it is now.
This team can literally stand pat and develop what they have though. Unless a trade comes along. I'm not sure the Celtics want to give up anything on this team though. They need to add to it. Schroder and Horford are a little sketchy as far as if they are the answer or not right now. But I don't even think that has been decided. I also don't think the Celtics like to trade players they are undecided on.
Someone like Kanter may get dealt etc.. Bruno Fernando. etc, etc. I think the Celtics would give up these guys no questions asked in a salary dump right now.
I think after tonight the rumors should just stop on certain players because it's not going to happen unless it's for someone ridiculosu and might be a small chance
Smart
Tatum
Brown
Williams
are not salary dumps or going to be traded for someone else for the sake of trading them for someone else
Horford
Schroder
Jrich
Romeo
Nesmith
Pritchard
Grant Wiliams
Bol Bol
Are players they are undecided on but are celtics as it stands and how people see them is a misnomer. They are not players the Celtics want to trade as it stands. They are building with them and are part of the 12 man rotation and present and possible future. They still have not reached their ceilings or made a decision who stays or who goes. Horford and Schroder are a little iffy because their contracts are up etc and they can give us flexibility in other ways vs paying them next year. IT depends on how you lean on that. Some people may just think Schroder isn't it at ths point. I don't think the Celtics have made that decision yet. I think they want this team to play hard for the next couple weeks and then will. I think they traded for Bol Bol because they wanted him.
Kanter
Bruno
Jabari
I think the Celtics would dump to a team for a player a team is not going to be able to pay right now. But even Kanter is in the rotation right now over Bol Bol and our big man and rebounder because he fits a role they want. There is some leeway because we also have Bruno where I think they would dump Kanter in situations.
Other than that all trades are on hold as it stands.
