IT, who says he's pain-free for the first time in 3 years, and can do everything he used to be able to do, scored 42 points in his G-league debut last night.
Would you want him back with the Celtics? I can't imagine he'd cost much. He'd bring much-needed heart and bench scoring. I also know he's not a defensive stalwart, and for some that would be determinant. He's also 32. I'd still like to see us bring him back.
How about you?

I would. I would have brought back Rondo, Bradley and Jeff Green too though. This team lacks an identity off their bench in particular and really could use some oldschool celtics leadership. I don't think Jeff Green wanted to come back here because the fans got on him too hard and he got paid more to go elsewhere. He's actually a very good bench player. Bradley and Rondo have since moved on too. I'd honestly take any of these guys over who we have on our bench currently.
We had to trade to get Jrich here and an experienced vet. Signed Kanter. And our draft picks the past few years havent really panned out. I'm glad Ainge is in Utah honestly.
To me that would be creative and doing something different and something to get excited about had the celtics done that this offseasons. Rondo, Bradley, Green and IT were all available too.
They should have stayed away from Jrich, Jabari Parker etc, etc.. They could have split the MLE on 2 of those guys and 2 for the minimum more than likely.

I don't know if it was plausible but anything is if they really wanted to go that direction. This team under AInge has had real issues picking a direction.
pg-smart sg-brown sf-tatum pf-horford c-robert williams
bench
rondo bradley it green kanter
They could have stayed away from Schroder.. Pritchard, Romeo and Langford would be 3rd team. It was plausible this past offseason. Trade Schroder back to the Lakers so he can get his deal for Rondo and Bradley. Trade Jrich for Green. Sign IT. CHemistry would be better.

I wouldn't mind him as a 15th man, but i think his days of being a rotation player on a playoff team are over.

Do you say that because you think he's too old? Or not really all the way back physically? Or because the league is different now?

I just can't imagine that he hasn't lost a step. And if he loses anything from his game he's toast, cuz at his best he's a huge liability on defense.
If it was between him and some other G-league rando, IT by a mile. but since we already have a pg on this team (Pritchard) that needs minutes, id rather see them go to him.

He's going to the Lakers anyways on a 10 day contract. I don't think we have much to work with either. The Lakers really aren't much better than us. But Lebron and AD and Westbrook equal a couple more wins this year apparently so far.
The teams that are doing best are teams that have gone a completely other direction. LIstening to talk radio the past several years with the whole "trader danny" thing which wasn't even true and Danny Ainge himself. We would have been better going a completely other direction. I need to tune it out because so much of it is for ratings and not even true. Brad Stevens is a pretty logical rational guy but I'm not sure if he is the guy who is going to get us back to playing championship level basketball himself. He needs to take some chances somewhere.
I don't think IT is the end all be all by any means. Or Rondo or Bradley. Or Jeff Green. But we are pretty much in the same position.
Guys like Nesmith, Pritchard and Langford can be good roleplayers too. But they need time to develop and good coaching to put them in position to succeed. Right now we are basically spinning our wheels. I don't see star with any of them but I think both pritchard and Nesmith can shoot if put in the right spots. And Langford can do some of the dirty work. We need all 3 to play scrappy though.
Teams like Cleveland have a really good bench so far this year. We don't. Gone are the days of guys like AB coming in and playing defense too. Cleveland is doing well with their bench because they have a good mix of young talent there and veteran players and Rubio is getting them the ball and guys like Osman and Okoro have helped them. Kevin Love comes off the bench now.

The NBA is tough because of the way the cap is set up and how salaries are. The Patriots were able to go on a big spending spree this past offseason sans Tom Brady which paid dividends for the pats so far. They aren't as good as they were with Brady. But their team has depth now. The way the Celtics are now. It was Horford, Kemba, and Hayward the Celtics were spending money on because those were the best free agents they could get to come here. They were paying them max deals when Durant was getting the same but choosing to go elsewhere.
Now it's Tatum and Brown who are getting that money and they are young players. The Celtics don't have cap space to get a 3rd guy because of Horford's contract currently and how their cap is set up period. Smart is under contract. They have 3 players on rookie deals. Timelord got a fairly large contract too. So between Tatum and Brown and Smart and Williams they still can't sign a max free agent. They have to make a trade somehow.
Their bench and starters are middling right now in hopes they get better. They don't have Doncic or Giannis or Steph or Jokic. They don't have 3 guys like the nets do. Or lakers or whoever. They are on par with just about everyone else for good or bad.
What they do have is a solid team that can play better than they are.

No I would not want him back unless he can teach Tatum how to want to win.
