With the way Brad has side stepped free agency this summer, and has clearly been angling to have cap space next summer, do you think Beal has confidentially told his St. Louis buddy, Jayson Tatum, that next summer he's coming over to BOS?
I ask because we are putting all our eggs in the basket.

I don't know how realistic signing Beal next summer is. Here's a good discussion of what we'd have to do to be able to do it: www.nbcsports.com/boston/celtics/nba-free-agency-celtics-path-cap-space-still-painfulBasically it's a whole list of players we'd have to let go (Basically everyone but JB, JT, RWill,Pritch and Nesmith), and then this: "Even with ALL those concessions, you likely still need to ask Beal to take less than the full max in order to have the room to make it work." I'm ok with jettisoning all those players (the mediocre, the oft-injured and one who thinks he's a star but isn't), but I would not bet on Beal taking less money to play with Tatum. Our better bet is to trade for him this year. I don't have any thoughts on how we'd do this, or who to trade other than NOT Brown or Tatum. I also wonder whether three scorers is the best trio to build a team around. The old "there's only one ball" thing.

Excellent points, but all indicators point to a big acquisition in the coming future.
I don't think he's saving up (freeing up) all this cap space to blindly throw at whoever becomes available (Durant, Harden, Kyrie, Levine, etc), and if no one takes it, wildly spend it on a bunch of lesser players.
It seems like there is a specific target.

Yes, probably, but not necessarily Beal - unless he has inside info.

Yes, probably, but not necessarily Beal - unless he has inside info. And I think that inside info has come directly from Tatum's mouth. Brad seems to be operating as if he knows what's coming. Say for instance Brad has no idea whether Beal is coming to us. Would he punt this season knowing there's a big chance we strike out next summer with big free agents? I don't think Brad would gamble like that. Otherwise I'd think he would rather have tried for certain players this free agency (Lonzo Ball for instance) and keep building piece by piece. But to completely shrug this free agency indicates he knows what is coming -- namely that Beal has given us the gentlemen's handshake. Now Brad's got to do his part and clear up money to get Beal here. And that's what he looks like he is doing.

There's a guy on a Celtics forum who I would say has a legit source (his track record is good).
Says Beal is soon going to declare he wants to be traded from WAS.

Teams will be interested. But it is known in the NBA circles that Beal wants to play with Tatum. So I doubt teams will put together a bounty offer for a one year rental.
The poster said our offer will be (and I don't know if this is his source telling him this, or if it's his guess) Smart, Richardson, Pritchard and Nesmith with 4 future first round picks.

I think GSW is the only team that can mess this up if this is true. I just don't like believing a player to keep his word. We just need to look a few years back to Kyrie.

I think this is the way to go -- draft cheap(er) 2nd rounders who are solid upperclassmen to fill out the back end of the rotation (and find gems once in a while who can start). Too bad we can only have 2 two-way contracts. There were some undrafted players I would have liked to pick up.

Yes. He said something like "my first choice" or "my preference" or "highly open minded" or "super interested" or "definitely" or something less than a promise but enough to be very optimistic.
Tatum is the GM more than Brad.

One difference is Beal's relationship with Tatum. It's one thing to back out on an organization -- it's another thing to burn a friend. Beal is a loyal guy from what we know (has stuck with WAS with no complaints to date). If he told Tatum he's coming, I believe he'll be loyal to his word).

Flip the script and is there any possibility that Tatum promised Beal he'd try get to WAS? Could Tatum force a trade that way? I know he is signed for years but that hasn't stopped other guys from being in rumours. I'm looking at Dame and hes in trade rumours despite a long term contract.

I would think Tatum sees Boston's organization as a much better organization to play for than WAS.
