I'm sure every one of you will oppose trading for Ben Simmons, for a variety of reasons (as do I). It'll cost us an arm and a leg to trade for him -- he's regressed as a shooter, especially at the free throw line -- his personality rubs folks the wrong way, etc.
But he is 6'9", a great passer, a good defender, a terrific open court player, and can score near the basket.
I'd rather not trade for him. But if we do, I'd try to make him a PF and utilize his passing as a 4. A new version of Draymond Green.

Too bad we can't trade him even up for Smart. Unfortunately the salaries don't match up. The strengths of both are defense and passing. I would argue that Simmons is a better defender and a better passer. The weakness of both is shooting. Would you rather have a guy who's a bad shooter but acts like he's a good shooter, or a guy who's a bad shooter and refuses to shoot? A team with Simmons, Brown, Tatum, Fournier and whoever plays center would be very switchable. And Simmons running the break with Brown and RWill racing down the court would be fun to watch. But I can't stand the guy.

DMatts...Trust me you want no parts of Ben. I live in the metro-Philly area. He's a liability on offense to the point of making it like 4-5 basketball in the half court which is a killer in the playoffs especially. Plus talk about a guy who doesn't work on his game. Marcus's got nothing on Ben. Plus if you're talking about making this guy a PF you'd better clear it w/him before you trade for him. He doesn't have the drive and/or determination to excel in this league. He's mentally/psychologically fragile & it only adds to his fear, yes fear of shooting in a game. You'd figure after a season like they had and then how it ended that he'd be fired up to come back w/vengeance. Nope, he's overseas w/his gf I think. But he's certainly not working on his gm. Philly made a bad mistake in extending him & now they're paying the price. You want no parts of Ben...

Yeah, I don't want him, especially since we all agree he's not a very likable guy. And he should've been working tirelessly to improve his weakness the way Jaylen has. That just tells you where his heart is at.

Simmons and Philly are in a bad place. He wants out and Philly will not get the king's ransom they're hoping for because Simmons can't / won't shoot and is afraid to go to the free throw line.
He'll be traded at a discounted price.
As tempting as that may be (a stellar defensive wing who can dribble, pass and rebound, and is a great open court player), I can't get over his personality. Just rubs me the wrong way.

Is there a way to transfer Simmons's reluctance to shoot to Smart? Maybe some kind of Vulcan mind-meld?
