According to Brad, he's looking for players who make our wings better. We have 2 young studs at the wings -- Tatum and Brown -- and sounds like he's building around them.
What type of players make could make them better?
Probably big men who can execute the pick-and-roll and the pick-and-pop really well with the Jays, and either stay on the perimeter to shoot three's or roll to the basket for lobs. This keeps defenses from focusing only one the Jays.
Good perimeter shooting and slashing wings will be good for the Jays, for they can make defenses pay for sagging and doubling up on the Jays.
Good passing PG's who work well with the Jays and can get them a few easy baskets every game.
In general, I'd think smart players who don't need isolation plays called for them, who don't need high usage will he the targets.

Fournier is the very definition of a good-shooting and slashing wing, so you'd think we'll try to resign him.
My first priority is a PG who can run the show. Watching Trae and Booker (who was playing point) yesterday, repeatedly tossing up alley-oops for their big men, really brought home how important it is going to be to have a guy who can get by his man and create easy hoops for us.

That's exactly what I think we need (and I don't think Smart is that guy). Brad never had a true pass first PG (who was really good) while coaching our team, or at Butler, did he?

Hear me out..this is a hail mary but what about Ben Simmons? We got Tatum and Brown who are both shooters, we add Nesmith on the perimeter too, and theres Horford who also has range. Is Ben Simmons a buy low candidate because of the recent Sixers meltdown? He passes (a need of ours), he rebounds (a weakness of ours), AND he plays top notch defense against all positions (something we badly need). Yeah his FT shooting is an issue but the blowback from their loss to the Hawks means he'll finally dedicate a summer to fixing his damn shot. Could he be a steal??

But I just can't see defenses playing him tight on picks and screens -- they're going to drop under the screen and dare him to shoot it. And thus it negates our game plan. But I'm with you. If whoever the coach is knows he can get the most out of Simmons (and do it without forcing Ben to become a shooter, cause it might never happen), then I'm open for it.

Surely he has to know that he can't have a career without a shot. I mean at the very least a FT shot. Noone is asking for a 3Pt shot but if hes willing to bang down below and take the fouls for FTs, then an acceptable 60+ FT% is somewhat attainable? Coaches have allowed him to dictate his playstyle for too long..and his teammates don't hold him accountable. Sometimes you need an alpha like MJ to rip you to bits just so you know your failings.

I don't think Simmons is a fit. He's a terrific passer - in the open court. He has very little ability to get by his man in the halfcourt and create for others, and he's useless as a floor spacer. The other team might as well put his man in the paint and clog the middle against Tatum and Brown. Here's where it gets subjective, but I just don't think the guy is a winner. He didn't win in college and even with Embiid his teams have done nothing in the pros. To me Simmons is a front-runner who folds under pressure. I'll pass.

I agree with you and I will add on that he obviously has zero work ethic. He has also enjoyed being a celebrity more so than working on his craft and trying to win. He cares more about chasing Kardashians than basketball.

Doc says they (the Sixers not the Karsashians) have a plan for Simmons to improve his shooting. It'll be interesting to see how that turns out.
