Many folks are concerned about their beloved Celtics, but it is unnecessary. This has the potential to be a beautiful beginning of the next epic era of Celtics basketball.
Danny had a great run as Head of Operations -- if KG and Perk remained healthy, we would've won 2, maybe 3 titles -- but even with just one we won lots of playoff games during Danny's tenure, and it has been a great ride.
He's not abandoning ship, but sees this as a great opportunity to hand off the reins to Brad Stevens at the infancy of the team's emergence into contendership. With Tatum and Brown stepping into their prime as young All-stars, the building blocks are already in place.
I have a hunch Chauncey Billups will be the head coach. And he'll be the right guy to partner with Tatum and Brown, as they build a winning culture together. Like how Larry Brown and his team of Billups-Hamilton-Rasheed-Ben-Prince go together, Billups and Tatum-Brown will be a winning combination.
Both young stars will find the right guidance from Billups.
Chauncey comes from a winning background, and he knows working as a team leads to winning basketball. I'm sure that is what he'll stress to the guys. Each man is accountable for his part in winning.
Though Tatum and Jaylen will be the stars, the culture will circle around team unity (team is more important than individuals). Everyone gets to shine in their own way.
Of course it'll be a defense oriented team, with offensive versatility. (that just seems so Chauncey).
I'd look for Chauncey to bring in a stabilizing veteran PG right away. Doesn't have to be a star either -- just a veteran who knows how to run a team and set up Tatum and Brown.
Robert Williams is on the verge of being the full time starter and defensive anchor for Billups.
In another year or two, Billups will have Pritchard and Romeo helping off the bench, with Nesmith coming up ready a year after that. This is when I expect this team to be Finals worthy.
And Brad will be the architect of this dynasty. Danny had Doc and the KG-Pierce-Allen bunch, and then later had Brad with his assortment of players. Brad will have Chauncey and the Tatum-Brown duo (hopefully get another star in there).
