A guy like Spoelstra is ideal.
I wonder if Coach K is up for coaching for a couple of years. Win a title and then have that on his mantle before retiring.
A woman coach might have appeal, but I wonder how players will respond when the going gets tough -- will doubt creep in quicker?

I think Stevens is afraid to hire a passionate, respected, and loved coach like Kara Lawson or KG.

1) NOT Ty Lue
2) Not anyone who is going to stay with the read and react offense we've been "running" in recent years.
Regardless of who it winds up being, I want to see the ball move, and I want to see everyone involved on virtually every possession. I wonder if there's a link between our falloff on D this year and our increased reliance on isolation offense.
Over the years we heard Tommy say that if the big guy runs the floor hard you have to give him the ball to reward his effort. I don't think it's farfetched to think that if a guy never touches the ball on possession after possession his effort on D eventually falls off.

Sherrod thinks it should be Billups cause he has great leadership.

I wouldn't mind Billups, it would be weird just because of the rivalry we had with him and the Pisdones, but he was a smart player and there is no reason why he can't be a good to great head coach. Plus he has the rings to demand respect from the players. Sam would be ok in my eyes too, just don't hire someone based on anything other than being the right fit not some BS virtue signaling towards the crazies who don't pay to come to the games or support the league anyway.

Curious if we're looking for a systems coach, or a coach who adjusts to whatever he has to work with.

Read that Billups is respected in lockerrooms (including opposing lockerrooms) for his leadership and humility.

I'll bring it up again -- I wonder if it could be Coach K?
Obviously, Tatum has a relationship with him. And he commands great respect.
5 titles as a college coach. An NBA title would solidify him as one of the absolute greatest coaches on any level.

I don't see it. 1) He doesn't need it, either financially or reputationally and 2) Success in college has at least as much to do with recruiting as it does coaching. I've never thought that coach K was much more than a great recruiter. And that is true with most of the winningest coaches in college ball.

Jared Weiss, who is privileged to talk to Celtics players, thinks it could be Billups; thinks it's because of his leadership.
Talks about Jerome Allen as well. Says the players respond well to him. He worked under Brad, knows the system, knows the players -- could be a good working tandem with Brad.
I'm pretty sure we'll hire a head coach soon. The draft is 6 weeks away, and will be good for the new coach to have a say in whom we draft (unless it's Allen, who would be in sync with Brad).

I agree that it would be best to have a coach on board early for draft prep.
I don't agree that knowing the system is necessarily a good thing, because I'm not a fan of our system.

Here's what I'm wrestling with. Would Brad hire a coach whose philosophy contradicts, or at the very least, doesn't align with his? Say Brad heavily feels that defense is important, but he hires a guy who could care less about defense. Does Brad go against his own philosophy and purposefully fight his own instincts to draft players who are allergic to defense?

I think there is no way that he hires a coach that isn't about playing defense, first off because they are so absolutely rare. I can really only think of Paul Westhead and to a lesser extent D'Antoni. I do think Brad would be willing to go with a coach that believes in playing defense and offense in a different structure, if that makes sense. Like if he hired a coach that thinks we could blitz the PnR on defense instead of switching, and i think brad would be open to it. This just goes to the fact that for the most part coaches in the NBA run pretty similar systems, unlike, say, college football, where you may have a team that strictly runs the option versus a team that runs an air raid offense.

Still no word about who Brad is leaning toward hiring as head coach.
I feel that it will either be a former NBA player, or Kara Lawson.

Felger says he heard it could be Sam Cassell.
If it is, I'm good with it. Has that Doc Rivers type of vibe. If Doc is a fatherly type, Sam is the Uncle type.
