Lloyd Pierce? Chauncey Billups? Sam Cassel? Jason Kidd? Kara Lawson, Becky Hammon? Jay Laranaga, Scott Morrison?
Someone else?

Personally I think Sam who has spent alot of time as an assistant is the top candidate for the role.
If not Sam, then I would really hope its Becky Hammon. I'd be very interested in seeing the teachings from Pops come across.

I remember Sam was considered a coach when he was a player. But I don't know -- I get a Brian Shaw vibe from him (not quite fit to be a head coach).

Someone from the list you mentioned? Or someone else entirely?

Shoot, I don't even know. Would a personality like Doc's be good for the Jays? I think it would, but who's another Doc?

I am going to say that it won't be a college coach. A college coach may work when you don't have established stars. But when you have 2x All Stars, then you need a voice they respect. You need someone with a ring and who knows how to deal with dominant personalities.
So you're right, maybe someone like a Doc.
But here's food for thought...
Aren't the Celtics one of the most attractive coaching landing spots? How many other teams could you go to with 2x All Stars and ready to win? Or am I reading the narrative wrongly, and coaches would be wanting to avoid the Celtics?

Great ownership and 2 young stars already in place. One name from the college ranks is Juwan Howard. Many are blown away by the job he did at Michigan. He is a long time assistant of Eric Spoelstra.

KG and I'm not looking back . There would be restraining orders filed every week by the players against coach KG😁(and a few homicide cases).

Unless we can get a proven winner - meaning titles - I'd rather see someone new than a retread.
Apparently Kara Lawson is getting a lot of attention. Scal thinks she'll be the pick, but she just barely started at Duke. Even if the Celtics wanted her, could she really leave Duke so soon?

We need a coach whose voice carries weight. After a while, I think Brad's words fell on deaf ears.
Lloyd Pierce is kind of on the nice guy side.
Cassell might work.

I am kind of expecting the unexpected, much like when Danny plucked Brad from Butler - not that I think Brad will go with a college coach. But it wouldn't surprise me at all if it winds up being someone no one is talking about.

Honestly, I have no idea if any of the people who have been assistants have what it takes to be a good head coach. Just because you played in the league or apprenticed under Pop, it doesn't mean you'd be a good choice. Maybe you would be, maybe not. And while I have no problem with a female head coach, and on one level it would be kinda cool to break that barrier, I also don't want someone picked BECAUSE they are a woman - nor do I believe anyone would want to be.

I'm kind of 'meh' on the next coach. Basketball it seems like you're more of a middle manager than a coach. How much do they really effect things? It's more about being someone who has good people skills and has the ability to get respect from those around him. basketball at this level is rarely won by Xs and Os.
