I'm completly frustrated with this organization. Teams like the pistons and spurs continue to add pieces to the puzzle, what do we get this offseason brian scalbrine. 3 million dollars down the drain. Last year we could have had antonio mcdyess key 6th man for the pistons, ohh no lets lowball him so we can sign tom gugliota. Yet another joke. We are the boston celtics, this ownership acts like their running an expansion team. How come we cant attract big time free agents.
Paul pierce is having an MVP type season, yet his efforts are going to waste, becausse he has no help. I feel sorry for him, the man is giving everything he has, frustration is bound to kick in. Look at the newjersey nets they continue to add pieces mark jackson wide body, clifford robinson solid veteran. Even the freakin atlanta hawks spent money this offseason. Are you fellow celtic fans feeling my pain? I'm sure others on this board have more to add. Ownership better step the hell up this offseason.

I wouldn't say that PP has no help. We have some very talented young players. Ricky has been playing great as has Delonte. Al and Perk play well for the most part when they get the minutes. O Greene is showing signs of developing into a very good PG. Tony is back and once he shakes the rust off is going to help alot. I think Green is getting close and that is why he is being sent to NBDL to get some playing time. Gomes does very good things when he gets on the court but Doc has buried him in the rotation and now he is inactive. But he can contribute when he is in. I have been disappointed in Danny's Free agent signings. But his drafts have been great. I am hoping that he is lining up a trade to get rid of Blount. If he does, it will go a long way to make this a better team. It will reduce our turnover by about 5or 6 a game. It will give the kids more playing time, and it will lower my blood pressure. I have been frustrated with Doc's coaching. He just doesn't seem to get it and his rotations do not have any rhyme nor reason. Perk played so well tonight it is a sure thing that Doc will bench him the next game.

I dont think we low-balled McDyess. I think the offers were similar, and Dice made the obvious choice, playing for the defending champs.
As far as last off-season, there were no FA that I wanted up to pony up for. The only talent was at PF, and I dont want to spend a lot of money at a position that Al will hopefully be taking over soon.
And when it happened, I didnt mind the Scala signing. I thought he could be a bo outlaw type for us. I still dont think it was a real bad move. HIs contract is so small its basically a non-issue.

Time to play Reed, Gomes and Greene more. Maybe even Green, rather than sending him to the D-League...

The season is frustrating - Blount does not fit in well with the team and that was a bad signing by Danny Ainge.
Scalabrine and Dickau were cheap insurance signings. I still think they can have a role on this team.
The drafts have been excellent but drafting 3 high schoolers in 3 years have made this team immature.
Pierce is the holdover from the prior regime (along with Blount) and his window with the Celtics is closing rapidly. He and the Celtics got stiffed last night in Washington.
The Celtics are very much alive for a lower rung spot for the EC playoffs but I feel this has been 50 game exhibition season waiting for Doc to settle on a rotation and go with it. We are behind the rest of the NBA in that regard and we are paying for it dearly in the losses incurred and how we are losing games.

The drafts have been excellent but drafting 3 high schoolers in 3 years have made this team immature. In his defende, Ainge wasn't that keen on signing blonut, the owners pressured him in doing that. It was probably the last time they meddle in personell issues. This team is indeed immature, but Rivers isn't giving them freedom to grow up. Oh, and it is indeed a VERY frustrating season

Bringing up the Nets is a totally different situation. The Nets are primed to take a shot at the title with a very small window. They are in no position to be contenders in 5 years, so that's their only realistic window.
Ainge has the future in mind, and rather than breaking the bank on certain specific pieces (like Saras Jasikevicius and the other FA's we may have missed out on), Ainge is going to wait and see this team develop and then when we get close to being really good, then make big offers to lure in specific needs.
That's why the whole Pierce situation is unique. He's our best player, playing the best he has ever played in his career. But yet he's being discussed as a trade piece. This is because his contract may expire before we become good enough to make a run at the title, and we don't know if he'll re-sign to a new contract once his current one runs out. And this is only if we want to re-sign him. If Tony Allen and Gerald Green make enormous strides in their development, Ainge may want to role the dice on them and keep them both for the same amount of money it would take to re-sign Pierce.
But yes, this team is frustrating. We aren't close to scratching the surface of where we need to go. We aren't running yet, we aren't rebounding, we aren't taking care of the ball, and we aren't defending. Offensively, we are coming pretty close to being where we should be (aside from the running aspect), but offense doesn't win championships.

Pistons and Spurs are winning franchises and when a team is a winner players become more attracted to go there. How did we lowball McDyess? Last I check we gave him a full-mle offer but he took Detroit offer instead. I think 9 out of 10 times a free agent gets a similar offer from a championship team they'll go for the championship team. Free agents won't be attracted to this team until we start winning. Until then you aren't going to get "Hot name" players. Marc Jackson plays a total of 13 mins a game if that. He isn't a good example at all. Clif has experience at best. He's no better walter mcCarty. In fact, I guarantee you Nets will not win a championship with Carter-Jefferson-Kidd. NO BIG MAN = NO CHAMPIONSHIP. My biggest fustration with this team is the direction we're trying to go with. Are we looking to compete or rebuild? It's seems like we're stuck in the middle and something needs to budge. Either make a trade in order to make this a competitive team or try to groom our young kids.

SA/DET draft well, plus have the veteran core intact. Besides, DET wouldn't be as potent if Danny didn't 3-way for Wallace.

Not to mention that the Spurs and the Pistons have a system the whole team has bought into, and they have players who totally dedicate themselves to playing within the system (well, OK, Manu and Parker sometimes go off on their own tangents).
We are still trying to find a system that works, and the players haven't been able to get out and run like how we were supposed to do.
I'm with you, JHVOS. We need to decide if we want to compete for a title while Pierce is within this contract, or if we want to rebuild. Esco, I know you think we may be able to do both, but I'm under the impression that its not really plausible to do it while Pierce is in this contract.

I'm at the point where I value developing the young players ahead of winning games this year. Given NJ's current winning streak, I no longer aspire to win the division but would settle on getting a 6-8 seed so West and Co. can gain more playoff experience. But Doc really needs to commit to Perkins and AJ up front, and hopefully Ainge can move eithre Blount or LaFrentz in order to open up playing time for our young bigs, and even give Gomes the occassional look at the 4.

IMO, we dont have enough talent yet were play-off experiece trumps a better draft pick. I'd much rather end up with a 6-9 pick than a 1st round play-off beatdown.

Last year's disgrace in the Indy series makes me second that belief.
