From ESPN's Mark Stein column:
If there's any East team out there with a shot at landing Indiana's Ron Artest, all signs point to Boston.
NBA front-office sources insist that Celts president Danny Ainge, who certainly has no shortage of young players to dangle as well as a mercurial swingman of his own in Ricky Davis, remains as interested as anyone on the list of leading West suitors: Denver, Minnesota, Golden State and the Los Angeles Lakers.
Doesn't really say that we are in the lead to get him. All it says that Ainge is showing interest. Stein just thinks that with the amount of talented wing players we have, he thinks we could be the frontrunners.
But interesting, indeed. Will Pierce be the one going?

If I'm Larry Bird, I'd go for the best player I can get, and that would be Pierce, not Ricky.
But if they'd take Ricky instead, that would work. Tony Allen replaces Ricky's athleticism and excitement (not the deadly jumper, but he does other things that Ricky doesn't).

I'm not surprised at all in this development. We will be one of 4 or more teams involved in the Artest trade, which I suspect is extremely complicated. Ainge was going to accompany Green to Fayetteville, AR but I suspect he could be meeting up with other NBA GM's. Garnett of Minny is a trade candidate. Boston's big 4 veterans are on the block. There are a lot of possibilities out there. Sacremento and Golden State figure in the mix also. Stay tuned and read up up on your internet rumors.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Pierce end up in Indy.

I don't think so. I do not think they would trade Pierce for Artest, unless it was a 3 or 4 team blockbuster trade and we recieved Artest and some other player/players as well.
No, I think if we do get Artest (which I highly doubt), it will be for Davis and filler or picks as has been reported.

I would trade Pierce if i could rid myself of guys like Blount and Raef in the process and get someone back like Artest.

I don't know. I do not think I could part with Pierce to bring back Artest. Too risky. Heck of a ballplayer, but one more outburst and the guy is banned from the NBA ala Pete Rose. No way. Couldn't do it.

Pierce to Minny would only happen if McHale thinks the Garnett era is over and he needs to start anew. Pierce and Raef would actually work because both their salaries combine to make up Garnett's. But just those 2 would not be enough to entice McHale to depart with arguably the top 3 player in the league. He's going to want young and talented players to make up for the years of missing out on draft picks.
As for Pierce to Indiana, I remember Bird saying high praises for Pierce in years past, so I'm sure he wouldn't mind Pierce in a yellow and white uni now. I like Artest's game and I think he's a heck of a player, but his volatile persona is scary. The fans in Boston are a bit harder on their players than the folks in Indiana, so what'll happen when things aren't cheery between the fans/media and Artest?
But he's a heck of a defensive player and as strong as an ox, on top of being an underrated offensive player.

I personally don't want to trade either PP or Ricky. The only player I want to get rid of is Blount. Even Raef with his bad contract is stomachable. Getting rid of Blount does several things... We lose 5-6 turnovers a night, Perk gets more playing time, and it will lower my blood pressure immensely!!
As for Artest. He is a talent. He will give us a defensive presence, but I am afraid his attitude and temper will give us more headaches than positives. I don't want to take a chance. I don't see Larry trading him to an East Coast rival. I think he will be going out west.
