More than anything, injuries hurt our chances this year. Hayward, Kemba, Theis and even Romeo were not able to contribute as well as they could. Hardly any team is completely healthy in the postseason, but had we been 75% healthy, we probably have the title instead of the Lakers.
I know Danny said this team isn’t close, and I understand what he’s saying (or maybe he’s saying that to light a fire under the team), but we’re closer than we’ve ever been since Brad got here.
We have the right role players, but unfortunately they’re young and maybe a (full) year away from solidifying their roles. Robert, Grant and Romeo all have the goods to be impact bench players (and I believe more than that). I don’t want to dump them for a quick fix, unless the quick fix paves the way to a title next season.
I think our biggest need is a reliable scorer off the bench.

I don't know. As well as Theis played, and as improved as Robert looked in the playoffs, and as well as Grant shot, Bam still dominated that series, and then he got dominated by AD in the Finals. I think we are going to need to upgrade our bigs and if it takes trading two or three guys for a better player, I think we need to do it.

Maybe kick the tires with Aron Baynes?

I'd like to see us get Baynes back. He knows the system and only left because we needed cap space. From what I remember, our defensive stats were best when AB was on the court. He's an upgrade over Kanter on D, even if he doesn't provide the offensive rebounding and post play. We'd be less likely to get bullied inside if we had Baynes. Even if we do though, we could use a young athletic big man. Precious Achiuwa?

Maybe Precious (not against him, but I’m itching for something else, can’t quite put my finger on it). I’m leaning toward Isaiah Stewart and Xavier Tillman if we’re going the draft route.
I’m kinda warming up to Andre Drummond if we’re going the trade route.

I mentioned it earlier when the bubble started, but if we could get Derrick Favors for like a 3 year, full MLE deal id love it.

Ok, I don’t think this idea constitutes too much change.
Trade Hayward in a three team deal involving IND and CLE:
We get Andre Drummond Indiana gets Hayward CLE gets lots of draft picks and short term contracts from both teams.
Drummond gives us that dynamic Center. For the first time in his professional career he’ll be playing for a contender, and for a team with great culture. His teammates will instill desire on the defensive end.
He’a going to gobble up rebounds, throw down lob passes, and block a few shots.
Tatum, Jaylen, Drummond and Kemba make a pretty formidable Big 4.
Then with a second round pick, draft Markus Howard, a lights out shooter and scorer off the bench.
If we want to go further, trade Smart to Golden State for their [HASH]2 pick and draft Anthony Edwards. This is a move for the future

I'd actually prefer Favors over drummond, when you consider the price difference. Favors played out of position pretty much his whole career. Dude was a defensive beast in his short time playing C for New Orleans. The advanced defensive metrics with him on the court versus him off the court are huuuuge. plus Drummond is pretty much unplayable in late game situations due to his FT%. Favors is also an athletic freak like Drummond. There's a reason that he was [HASH]2 overall pick in the draft. He's 260lbs, but can move, definitely more switchable than Drummond IMO.
The other option (if boston wants to try stay under the luxury tax) is to sweet talk Marc Gasol to make one last run at a ring.

Going to have to look at Favors more and get a better feel.

I've always been a favors fan! only thing i worry about is health.
what i love is his passing. his assist numbers dont reflect it, but the dude makes great passes to backdoor cutters.

Then again, you were big on Scot Pollard, so 🤨
More and more, I’m feeling we’re not going to have Hayward with us anymore, which opens the door for Tatum and Jaylen to do more. Need to surround them with better complementary players, i.e. shooters and off-ball scorers.

hahahaha i love me some Scot Pollard!
Im of the belief that if Hayward doesn't sense there's a big deal out there right now (and i dont believe there is), i think he'll resign with the C's after this season. I could see him settling into a nice Manu-like 6th man role with the C's while he hits his 30s.
If we end up taking a PG in the first, i could see us flipping Kemba after next year. This ownership group is great, but they aren't the kind of owners that can pay the repeater luxery tax years on end. i could see Kemba getting flipped for some pick and younger talent. id love to see them work out a trade with orlando for Jonathan isaac and other parts. Isaac's injury history scares me, but i think he'd be a great fit on this team. Swiss army knife with DPOY potential.

Sometimes I forget that Jayson Tatum is 22 yrs old, and Jaylen only made 24 a month ago. They are a few years away from entering the prime of their careers when they are playing their absolute best.
Can we win a championship when our best player (Tatum) isn’t in his prime yet?

Can we win a championship when our best player (Tatum) isn’t in his prime yet? I believe so. Kareem was the best player on a title team when he was 23. I think the key is to have some vets around. I think it's hard to win when almost all of your rotation guys are super young.
