In today's Herald there was an interesting quote by Pierce.
Does Doc think these players play defense on instinct? They have to practice it. He has to get it drilled into them, especially the kids.
For all his saying that we have to do a better job defensively, he doesn't drill it in practice.
Now I have no doubt now that Doc is not a good coach. We need a new head coach or an assistant who will drill these kids in defense... We have the talent but the coaches are not developing it. Doc harps on how we get out rebounded and then sits our best rebounders.
He keeps saying how we have to get better defensively but then doesn't drill it or focus on it in practice. Our offense is obviously doing well. So why continue to focus on it in practice? I kept hoping that maybe Doc was playing Blount to showcase him but now I am not so sure...

First of all, the Celtics hired !!!GREENIAC!!! Harter which indicated the Celtics were going defensive and they bought into it hook, line, and sinker.
Then everything changed when Ainge got here. In reality, I think before we make any more dumb trades, we need to change the coach.

It would be cool if we could hire Obie back just as a defensive coach, kinda like a defensive coordinator in football. He would have no impact WHATSOEVER on offense, just defense. But that would never work out.

I wouldnt give these commetns too much merit. THink back to when you played basketball. You always spent more time working on offense. Learning the offense takes a lot more work than learning the D. THe key to defense is deticating yourself to it once you've learned it.

Now that we know we can play offense really well, its time to start focusing on the defensive end more.
Doesn't help that our players aren't too defensive minded, either. Overall, only Marcus Banks, Justin Reed, Orien Greene, and Delonte actually take pride in putting forth a lot of defensive effort. Every other player just seems to be content with what they are doing right now.
